    Exclamation Traktor S4 and BPM's

Hey guys, i posted this on NI forums 3 days ago and havent gotten any response, pretty weird since i have read some users having BPM scanning issues.Hoping i'll have a better result on these forums!!

Has anyone else had this problem? I analyzed tracks from an external drive because thats wherei keep all my music and it shows the BPM for some folders and not others. In some folders the BPM shows for one song but not the rest...After i finally got the S4 to work on a Windows laptop(by reading this forum of course) without drop outs and crackles, now this, ugh, frustrating.
I've been a Virtual DJ user since it first came out (ver. 5?) and loved the simple process of scanning for BPM's and i dont see anyhthing like that in Traktor for the S4.Could it be a Windows issue again?
I have about 2TB of music on an external andf thinking about inputting the BPM's manually.
    Please HELP!
    Thank you

You can right click on a group of songs and select detect BPM. There's also on option to analyze tracks on collection load/import. That'll do new songs you add to the collection. Are you adding the songs to Traktor collection? Doing so doesn't duplicate teh songs it just tells Traktor where they are.

hmmm, just a idea - check file modes (read only), permissions and ownership.

thx knaumov, checked that and all is well

@photojojo,thank you..i think something is wrong with the install.i did as you suggested, went to preferences>file management> and added the option of "analyze new tracks on collection load/import.That option was not on by default.I then added a folder with 9 tracks and nothing,i then chose all tracks and chose the detect bpm(async) and that didnt work.i then loaded a track and of course it displayed the BPM but after hearing the entire song and stopping the track it didnt show the bpm either! theoretically once you load a song the program is supposed to "remember the bpm correct? this is what leads me to believe the installation is corrupt, well corrupt might be a harsh word, but somethings wrong!...any suggestions?

I'm a newbie to this forum thing(but a dj for a long time) so i apologize if this reply seems out of the norm
    Thank you!!

Just to clarify, you are right clicking the tracks and adding them to the collection?

Traktor doesn't analyze key, you need extra software for that.

I've seen this problem before, but for the life of me I can't remember what the deal was. You could try and pick a handful of songs that don't seem to want to keep the BPM and move them to your harddrive. If they work there then it's something to do with your external drive.

the only thing I've noticed is the it detects the BPM incorrectly at times. At which I just use the manual beatmatch shift key thing.

Default Traktor S$ and BPM's on external drive

Hello, this is a 2 part question:

I know Traktor recommends having your music on an internal drive but my internal drive does not have the space for my entire music collection so i keep all my music on an external drive.
The issue is that Traktor does not pick up the BPM's on an external drive.I scanned a folder with 20 songs on the external and saw Traktor scanning but at the end BPM's showed 0.000.I then copied the folder to my laptop, scanned for BPM's and it worked!
Can anyone tell me why this doesnt work on an external drive? It's a USB powered drive.Would I have to use a drive with AC power? Would i have to transfer a music folder into the internal drive, scan it successfully for BPM's and the transfer it back to my external? Seems like alot of work!

My other question is how does Traktor determine the key of the song? I choose the option to see this and after scanning for BPM's sucessfully, on the internal drive of course, it still does not show the key.

Anyone having any of these issues?

I've read that i should change the default root directory and and music folder directory to my external drive.

    Any help would be appreciated.
