Default Filter (Gain Knob) on S2

I was wondering if its possible to get smooth sounding filter sweeps with the gain knob on the S2?

I'm thinking of buying an S2 I don't have any music stores near where I live so I cant try one out for myself. I'd read that the gain encoder has notches. Does this produce a weird almsot quantized sound when performing filter sweeps? Seems like that could potentially make it next to useless. Just in general, how does it feel using the gain knob as a filter?

I guess S4 users could also let me know how they would imagine it feels? The gain knob is the same on the S4 and the S2 right?

It all depends on the resolution. If you want to turn it the same amount as you would turn a knob and expect it to reach the same value, then yeah, it would be stepy as hell.

I'd probably map the mid range to be the bass and use the bass knob as filter

I tend to not twiddle mid as much as use filter and the bass and treble.

I'd map shift to modify filter (bass) back to mid range.

Not ideal but better than using the steppy gain encoder.

Real shame there I no dedicated knob in the s2
