Can the beatlock cause minor sound bugs?

Do you mean sync or key lock? There's two settings for key lock in preferences.

I find if you try and do more than 3% you start to get some artifacts in the sound. The lower the quality of the file the less you can change the pitch and still have it sound good. Try changing the setting in preferences and see if it gets better.
