Default Traktor Kontrol S2 mapping to remix decks. Browsing samples mapping ?

    Hi Guys,

I just received my first Traktor unit. It's a Traktor Kontrol S2. I like playing around with samples,
but I can only play those samples from sample decks that are chosen when I clicked the mouse
on them. Is there a way to map paging or navigating through all those 64 samples using the
filter or loop knobs and shift for example ? Anyone has any mapping for that or at least a cool
idea to get it to work ? I plan to buy a midifighter 3D or Traktor F Kontrol at some point, but now
I want to enjoy my unit until I get to save some money to spend on DJ tools again

I appreciate your help in advance.

    Thanks
    ~Alex

    Sorry Alex
but as far as my constant reading has shown me, and i have been reading about Traktor since around 2009
and yes i know the remix decks didnt come to light until recently

there is no way to map the ability to CHANGE the pages of the remix decks.
Yes it does seem like it should be easy to do but the functions in the mapping just dont allow it to happen. Below ill show you way, if you can follow it.

For now however, you can save samples from a looped section of a track in either deck or from your loop recorder
to either of the remix decks (just noticed you are using an S2 so its not like you can LOOP deck A and send to DECK C)
in your case it might be easier to just use the loop recorder, pulling audio from A and send to remix deck on B for immediate play.

Check the manual on how to do this because i dont want to miss a step in telling you.
I know how i do it but i am using an S4 along with an F1 controller

    ***To be honest***
Get that F1 as soon as you can. Working the remix decks with it is SOOO much easier, and you can use ALL of their functionality at the flick of a finger.****

Ok now , why cant you map the pages and controls of a remix deck?

All of the mapping "necessities" described below already exist when you install the F1 drivers in your computer.
So when you plug in your F1 and start up Taktor, it already knows all the items below. They are already mapped as such,
and Traktor knows what they mean: Here we go:
(again, the below information is for others who may ask this same question)

Even the basic action of firing one of the 64 samples cannot be mapped. And this would only need two mapping commands:

Grid Page Selector This simple command would be used to switch between the four pages of the cell grid. The command should support interaction modes Direct, Inc, and Dec. The functionality of such a command already exists internally in Traktor, as you can trigger this action by either clicking the page indicators at the left side of the grid, or by using the encoder on the F1.
I cannot see why it would be difficult to provide such a command.
Cell Play/Trigger This would be the one and only command needed to launch one of the samples. The command should consider the currently selected page. Then in the Assignment list one would need to select the remix deck and one of the 16 pads. There are some other places in controller manager with extremly long lists (like the one to select the MIDI note), but they are cumbersome. A menu with 16 subentries should be easy to handle.
Starting a cell can be done by clicking with the mouse. Why not with a simple mapping command?

You can assign one of 16 pre-defined colors to each sample. In order to be able to use the color information with controllers having colored pads, one would need an Out command like Cell Color with a controller range from 0 to 16 (0 for off = no sample loaded, and 1 to 16 for the 16 different colors). Combined with a command/modifier condition like Cell State (paused, triggered, playing) one could set the intensity of the LED and/or let it blink (if the controller supports it).
