    Default aligning cartridge on headshell

hey would you guys suggest aligning your cartridges on a headshell using a protractor (maybe an audiophile thing) or just doing what the cartridge manufacturer might say (such as align the cartridge to the very rear of the headshell)

    thanks
(by protractors im referring to one of these http://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge...tractors.shtml )

Your angle will depend on the tonearm but usually you want the cartridge in line with the rear of the tone arm (where the counterweight is placed) for scratching or in line with the angle of the tone arm (for sound quality). WHen position the cartridge from forward to rear, you want the needle to be directly below the edge of the headhsell with the only two exclusions being vestax and stanton headshells where you want the needle to be back just a half millimeter back from the edge of the headshell. This is for improved tracking and balancing.
