Best way to get your original music to get noticed

I'm new to producing Electronic Dance Music and I realize it can be difficult to get your productions into the hands of people that will expose it to the masses, I am used to making hip-hop/ Rnb beats and passing it along to artists that in turn will either make something of them and release it as a complete song, or it collects dust, but either way its a medium and you know that the music you made is getting heard by someone. To the experienced EDM producers is it as simple as passing your tracks on to the right Dj or does it take extensive marketing and promotion similar to mainstream music, to get your name out there?
