    Default diy speakers?

Anyone have experience making their own HiFi speakers vs buying them? I researched it a bit and found out that for a couple hundred bucks and some work you could get dome really hi end speakers ... Any thoughts ?

Someone here posted a link a while ago for a DIY kit on studio monitor that have pretty decent reviews regarding SQ for a small price. Of course, the tradeoff is that all of them are passive speakers.

For stereo music, these are REALLY good. A friend has built a pair and they rival any system I have heard in a house.

Plate amps that are available at the consumer level are $$$$ and have medium to poor performance. BUT...for home use, any reasonable 2.1 stereo receiver has more than sufficient power and control.

Yeah I have a pretty nice pioneer receiver with lots of power. Looking for some floor standing HiFi speakers.

BTW I'm not looking for studio speakers or bookshelf speakers.. This is for my living room to listen to hi end music quality. I'm really going to try to get the mids and highs with these since I have a pretty nice sub I can use with it... Was thinking a 2 , 2.5 or 3 way speaker system possibly adding a center later but have a decent Sony one right now but could do with just left right and sub if the quality is there. My next step is to be using bass traps and speaker spikes to make the room as clear as possible

Look hard at the David floor standing speakers I posted above. The plans are VERY well written and easy to follow. The performance is REALLY good for the cost.

Might just have to buy those plans then.. Just hard to believe that those cheap components will have the effect I want.. But for that price for the speakers will at least out perform the speakers I have now.
