    Default Allen and Heath Mixers

How come now a days djs at the clubs like richie hawtin or dubfire... use a allen and heath 92 mixer and 2 1ds?
Why not a 4d? how is it not the same thing?

is it just because of the 4th eq knob?

I'm not sure where you get your info from, I don't think they use 1D's anymore. A common setup is two X1's for traktor and a Push (or Maschine) running on one or two computers. This or a similair setup is used by a LOT of artists like Chris Liebing, Dubfire, etc etc etc...

Back to your question, apart from the 4 band EQ the mixer is often provided by the event/club. And the Xone 92 is a very common mixer in the house and techno scene. If you would use a less common mixer like the 4D, they would have to provide it themselves or lug the damn mixer around. And it saves the hassle of chaning mixers when switching DJ's :-)

Thank you! Do you think a 4D is good for starting? I like it because it is all in one and I dont need too many cables and audio card. Enough Midi controls to play around too. Ive been listening to trance techno house since I was 12 and finally have decided to start djing.

The 4D is a great mixer but I think you'll find the MIDI controls a bit antiquated and clunky. Granted, if you can find one at a great deal pick it up but I dont its worth the investment to buy NOS.

They are fantastic machines, but would not consider one these days except for Ableton and even at that there are better choices, especially at that price-range, the bonus of course is that its a completely standalone A&H mixer and soundcard.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is "What kind of DJ am I ?"

The second question will very much depend on the first: "What software is best for me ?"

After that you can ask "What hardware fits my software and budget requirements"

If you are completely unsure and don't want to spend a fortune, pick up a $200 DJ controller (e.g. Mixtrak Pro, WeGo) both of which come with Serato, and just start playing around.

If you get a 4D for a killer deal it might be worthwhile considering - but ask yourself the questions above first.

Hi,the cause for why Ritchie play with a 92 and not a 4D is the 2 extra line on the 92 ( 4decks +2 for ableton and maschine ) perso i've a unofficial xone 5D cause i need to control more than 6 line on my setup i use 3 vinyl decks + 4decks on traktor +mashine all in ableton with only on computer before i bye my setup when i began im using a single hercule dj consol mp3 4 years ago all depending to your money ^^ hope that help you to consider what's your djing way

    Thanks for the input guys..

Im getting a xone 4d for $800 so I think is good enough. I wanna do techno and deep house. Yea I dont need those extra lines for anything else... maybe later but as for now I think the best choice for me is a 4d over a 92.

For those saying the 4d is outdated and clunky. Yes it's heavy, but thats because it's rock solid analogue gear. No LED feedback can be a pain but you can create mappings to work with this.

Most importantly the 4d is an awful lot like the s8. 4 channel mixer with dvs for Traktor. 2 control sections including 4 linear faders each.
I think this is probably the best non native instruments device for Traktor if you subscribe to their vision.

The 2 midi panels can easily be mapped for control over track decks, remix decks or the new stem decks as well as effects.

agree with the 4D ,it s a porn gear ,have it a little times before my setup it's a QUALITY controller sounding really good on massive system + mapping perso expand all possibilities to control everything ( I take control to traktor live & maschine mikro by the way of my traktor mapping (the 4D can do it to )
