Alesis Air FX/Synth Midi Mod?

I've been searching through teh interwebs for a little while trying to find a way to do this, and I thought you folks might have some ideas.

I have both an Alesis Air FX and Air Synth. I love these little guys, and have made a good number of recordings using the on-board sounds. However, they are limited, and I would love to utilize my library of sounds and effects with them. The problem is that they lack MIDI control. I am a total newb to modifying/building controllers, but I'd love to hack these things so I can use them within Ableton, etc. Anyone have any experience or ideas about how to go about modifying these devices so the XYZ interface can work with MIDI?
