Default Numark Omni Control + Water damage

After wanting to get into mixing for a while a friend bought a Numark Omni Control, and after a look at it I decided it was the perfect purchase.

Just getting the hang of mixing, and Traktor Pro finally configured properly, disaster has struck and last night knocked a pretty large glass of water over the controller.

I reacted instantly and quickly dried the exterior and done my best with a hairdryer to dry it out, but it's now the morning and it's fucked.

When I boot Traktor everything appears okay, until you load up a couple of tracks and move the jog wheels and the tracks start moving forwards and backwards randomly. One of the filter dials was randomly turning side to side and other lights were turning themselves on and off, so generally not looking good.

I'm pretty much broke which doesn't help the situation but what would be the best course of action as to getting it repaired?

Anyone have any experience with this sort of stuff and know if a repair is first of all possible, roughly how much it would cost and whether it would be best to contact Numark or go through and independent repairs place.

    Thanks in advance

Leave it to dry for a week or so... Try it again then. If it's still not working, then I don't know what to suggest.

I've already rang Numark and started the repairs process, but am just hoping that it'll magically start working again over the next couple of days, as I've got just about no money for a repair and fear that the cost for repair (if it IS properly broken) will end up being close to the cost of a replacement.

If it was just water it'll most likely be ok

    1. Plug it out - and leave it plugged out
    2. If you can.. undo the backplates and expose the circut boards .. its not gonna be covered under warranty anyhoo so nothing to lose here.
    3. leave in a the hot closet for a day, or somewhere warm.

    Test it

If that doesn't work there might be some residue or corrosion on the board

    1. Strip the unit to the board
    2. Clean around the board with a small soft makeup brush dipped in isopropyl (you'll get it in a pharmacy).
    3. Leave to dry out for a few hours.

    Test again

Anything beyond that probably means your pots might be damaged .. sounds like some liquid is just shorting them at the moment though and guess the top option will work.

True, but to work the best you probably need to at least take it partially apart and get hot air inside it. Turning it on may have fried some circuits though if there was still water trapped inside. First thing to do to anyone reading this is to unplug everything and DON'T turn it back on until your'e absolutely certain all of the water is gone.

I should have been more clear-

    1. Dont. Fucking. Turn. It. On.
    2. Open it up.
    3. Drain water.
    4. Hairdryer.
    5. Leave it for a bit.
    6. Pray a bit.
    7. Turn it on.
    8. Try and make it look like nothing has happened to it and return it claiming it just mysteriously broke.

the liquid that was spilled on it was from the inside of a bong, so wasn't exactly the cleanest of water, but it wasn't anything fizzy or anything like that.

when i tried immediately after and got the results i posted, then the same results the morning after i had pretty much lost hope of it starting working again, but have a little more faith now. i'll leave it somewhere warm for another night and fingers crossed etc.

does anyone have any experience returning items like this to numark? i'm guessing they're likely to take my eyes out on any sort of repair?

Seriously .. just pop open the unit at least one panel to let it breath a lil, else condensation buildup inside could do yet more damage.

Putting the unit in clear plastic bag lined with some tissue inside to absorb the moisture might help things along.

Numark will probably laugh their ass off @ the smell of the watered innards :P

Hope you had a prescription for that stuff in the bong hehe

yea the water was far from clean i'm afraid..

i've got it positioned pretty nicely near a radiator for the minute, gonna try and get the panel off later and leave it like that overnight.

trying to remain optimistic, wish i'd known the all important "DO NOT TURN ON" advice and hope i haven't broke it good and proper.

    thanks for the tips everyone
