    Plug it in?

You're a newbie and you bought an S4? Talk about throwing yourself in at the deep end haha.

Well you'd connect it to traktor like usual, then connect the sound out (your speakers) to the mixing desk.

Unless of course you plan on using the clubs mixer as your mixer. In which case you want to output traktors decks to the S4's different outputs and put them into their respective mixing channels.

It's easy peasy. Literally do the most obvious thing you can imagine and it will work otu fine.

Also, XLR connections are considered the most professional, if a club doesn't have a mixer with XLR capability, leave. Haha

If you meant tips as in comfort, clubs usually have space next to their mixing desk for DJ's laptops/decks/mixers. IF they don't, you'll need to look into getting a sturdy yet portable table. (Read, sturdy) a DJ at my club got his knocked over by a drunkard a couple of months back, and believe me when I say, Macbook Pro's aren't made for skydiving.

This whole notion that the S4 is for experienced DJ's only is hogwash in my opinion.

+1. The tight integration between hardware and software that everyone goes on about makes it much easier to get the hang of, and it has everything you need (software, controller, soundcard) in one package.

True, it's one of the few controllers that absolutely mimics the TP S4 interface. (Though the looprecorder is something else. )
