[Kid Quest]

This is a track I've been working on for the past few days. It isn't quit finished yet (I still need to add in a few things and mix/master). I've been producing for a decent amount of time now (probably about 6 years almost now). This is going to be my first ep I release though. Thank in advance for comments. Bass!

p.s. If you are impatient the actual drop isn't until 3 minutes into the track.

hey man, like the dutch sound that comes in @ 3 mins, the rest is quite good also, but i think the bass sound needs sidechaining personally, or if it is sidechained it needs to be done more drastically in my oppinion to give it a "pumping" effect, right now the bass sound kind of drones a bit and isnt quite dynamic enough, also i think the track goes for a little too long for a dutch style track. there usually fairly "short n sweet" dont mind me tho, im real nit picky when it comes to production since i worked in a recording studio and ive also been producing for about 8 years now... but otherwise, good track...

Thanks a lot for the advice. I appreciate it. I did sidechain the bass. It's pretty transparent though (just enough for the bass not to completely drown out the kick). I didn't want to do any heavy mixing/mastering. This is basically the track right after I finished working on it with no additional mastering/mixing other than what I did while producing the track (which wasn't even on quality monitors). I wasn't going to mix/master the track until I finish the rest of the songs for the ep so I that we could do the whole process in the same studio and have some consistency across the ep. Thanks for listening. I listened to your track in the other thread and really dug it. Quality stuff. What software do you produce with? I use ableton and reason via rewire, But I'm pretty familiar with logic, acid, and fl studio too.

depends on what i feel like lol, but it seems like the majority of the time i end up making my tracks in reason... then sometimes i rewire to logic aswell but not all the time. if im not happy with my master, then ill export the wav file and import it into logic and use my waves plugins for the mastering. sometimes i just use logic... and sometimes i make/edit samples in NI maschine aswell and use it as a plugin. and sometimes i even fiddle around with my actual synths aswel... so im really all over the place... haha

Haha nice! I I really always thought it's better to know one program like the back of your hand, but I've come to learn that being well versed in multiple daws/production software helps you to play off of all their various strengths and weaknesses. I've never actually attempted to make a full track in reason. I just use it for it's synths and sample with ableton. I may try one o these days just to become more familiar with it.

well i do know reason like the back of my hand well... basically anyway... if i dont know how to do something on the very rare occasion, i tend to figure it out within a few minutes... Id say im more familliar with reason than logic, just because reason is set up like a real rack, with wires to route at the back of the units, and the synths are layed out much more simmilar to real hardware synths. i come from a studio background, so i like this layout a lot more, and i tend to get stuff done more efficiently in reason.

Logic i know pretty damn well, as it was the main audio program we were using to do all our assesments at audio engineering college, that and protools, but i hate protools. But logic's synths i find arent layed out as intuitively as the ones in reason. theyre great synths, just crap interfaces. sometimes on ES2 ive spent 10 minutes looking for a particular paramater just because the layout is all whack and shit, but great synths and great software none the less.

but i tend to agree, different programs have different strengths and weaknesses, and its good to be able to use seperate programs for their strengths and make them compliment each other. Reason and logic are the only programs i think ill ever need, apart from 1 or 2 mastering plugins that i have.

i just cant seem to get my head into ableton. i have live 7, and ive seen all the possibilities with it, but coming from a more "traditional" background, i just cant get my head around the layout. I know how everything works, and what everything does, its all the same basically in every program, but i just cant seem to get into the whole "scene control" thing. id love to spend some time learning it next year though, as i have allways wanted to perform live with my own music, and ableton seems like the only good way to go about it.
