Question What are the best Monitors / PA Speakers under 300 each

I know theres a thread for studio monitors, but I want to know the best monitors that can also be taken to a party and used as a PA system. And if it's possible, to try to keep them under 300$ for each speaker. And of course, I want them to be as balanced as possible but still be able to get extremely loud without blowing. And if anyone owns some Mackie MR8's, how would these deal with producing and partys?

    Any suggestions?

i've used krk rokit 6 before, a pair of them. they do well for smaller rooms if its a house party, but i did feel they fell a bit short on the bass response since they are fairly flat. but i'd imagine for smaller rooms it'd sound just fine. but you do want to keep them from armslength at all times since they are fully exposed drivers and tweeters are subject to beer and vodka =P

    Mackies over KRKs anyday.

Mackies are _always_ built like a tank and will put up with much more abuse than the KRKs.

Also, the Mackies give a better and more pure freq range than the KRK, so that would be better for producing music.

I've heard this too, that Mackies are have great frequency range and accuracy for there price. On tuesday I'll go out to guitar center to listen very carefully to both sets and see wich ones are better for there price.

    Thanks!
