    Default Vestax TR-1 vs. VCI-100

    Hello everyone.

This is my first post here. I've been browsing for a couple days and this is a great site and great forum. I am in the process of switching over to Traktor and I have been researching controllers. This site has been a great resource.

It seems like most everyone is using a VCI-100, and I am very impressed with the mods and the custom work. I have a TR-1 on order (not shipped yet) because it seems to offer more control of Traktor Pro vs. the VCI-100. Have any of you VCI-100 veterans made the switch? What are the advantages and disadvantages to each? Is it just the cross fader and jog wheels (obvious difference)? With my style, I think I can live without those. Is there something else I am overlooking? It seems the TR-1 can do more without a using shift key = more control.

I am sure that the TR-1 can be modified similarly to the VCI-100, but if nobody is using or will be using a TR-1, then it is probably not worth buying. I like the sharing of innovative .tsi files (and firmware updates) with the VCI-100 and would hope the same would happen with the TR-1's, with even more possibilities. If you don't think that will be the case, I want to know why. Thanks everyone.

The TR-1 was supposed to be designed with Traktor Pro in mind, so I'm sure it can do the job or you and is of similiar quality as the VCI-100.

Once you get going, spend an afternoon learning to do your own MIDI mappings. Most of the innovations done on the DJTT mappings can be easily translated to other controllers, so don't feel like you would end up totally left out. Plus, as the controller is on the shelf longer, I'm sure more people may purchase that as opposed to a VCI-100 and post some innovative mappings of their own.

It really just comes down to which layout you like more.

I just purshase a second VCI-100 arcade edition and I just see that there is a new controller Vestax : the TR-1 ...

@TS: What's your impression having the controller now for a while?

I ordered one because of an excellent deal (a TR-1 for 300 euro's + free NI Audio 2 DJ!) and I'd like to know if you miss the jogs and crossfader.
Coming from a laptop only setup a TR-1 would improve my control dramatically but I'd like to know why there seems to be little animo for this controller.

    Two quick questions:

1.) Are the TR-1 pitch faders working with hi-resolution MIDI? Basically, what I have in the back of my mind is that the pitch fader resolution on the VCI was 7-bit (i.e., standard) MIDI prior to the DJTT 1.4 firmware update. I found that resolution too low and I would view 7-bit MIDI in the TR-1 as a downside of this controller.

2.) Stereohero: awesome deal you got on the TR-1 + A2DJ combo. Is it still available?

I believe so, it's on a Dutch site:
    RJShop
Only bummer was that the piece they sent me was broken, so I sent it back for replacement.. But first impression; it felt like a real sturdy controller with nice smooth faders and knobs! So I'm excited to get a new one.
