...maybe a reason they had to do it. Has to do with people getting frustrated to purchase an upgrade with so few new features (Reason 5 to 6.)
I don't know, I gave up on Reason years ago, always installing the latest demo version to see if I could be convinced but so far it's been a no for me.

thing i love about reason is out of the box, theres nothing it cant do with a little bit of work.
so far anything i would have done via buying a vst, can be built in reason for free, and a little bit of work on my part.

That's true but let's say you suddenly got interested in VA modular synthesis tools like Arturia Moog Module and you can't use that inside Reason. Or if you got excited about Izotope Stutter Edit... At least they have decent mastering tools/plug-ins now, used to be that those were not there so any decent mastering had to be done outside.
I think I know their charm/mantra, super-stable DAW with all the possible features you need in one package. Which is nice, but a nicely tuned Logic or Ableton Live environment achieves the same. And has more flexibility than Reason. Now, if Reason had at least 2-3 plug-ins that were a must have, not available outside, maybe that would be a reason for me to finally upgrade my 3.0 version.
Now, I have an open mind, so if 6.0 is interesting, then I might upgrade as it's a pretty cheap upgrade price.
Actually my biggest gripe is the MIDI editing environment, spoiled by Logic so it's kind of hard to step down to a lesser functionality/usability system.
still cant believe more people arent talking about this.
basically, propellerheads is letting people pick their own price for the next version of reason if they already have reason/record duo.
i think thats such a great way to do business.

It's damage control more than anything, a lot of people were not happy with the direction of the 6 update. Still, good news for those Reason users who were going to upgrade anyway.
