Hey everyone,
I'm looking to purchase a pair of SCS.3Ds for my new digital DJ setup. I really want to get these, but since price is a little bit of an issue I was trying not to go for the setups Ive been seeing around the net. These are some of the ideas that I came up with that are purely theoretical, so if you have any suggestions or anything wrong to point out, please let me know. Otherwise, please help me with some advice. I know I could also get the entire SCS 3 system, but I was looking for a little more versatility and to not look like too much of a simple DJ for my live shows.

Hercules RMX + 2 SCS.3Ds
Use the RMX as the mixer, and use the inputs on the RMX for the SCS.3Ds. I would be able to switch between decks via the Source button on the RMX, but is this practical at all? I would have access to decks, but only 2 at a time I suppose. How would I be able to preview any of the decks if 2 are playing? Plus only 2 upfaders and maybe 1 more if the master can be mapped to a deck?

I figured only the Hercules RMX would work, because the Omni Control, Torq Xponent, etc dont have the inputs/outputs needed for the idea I was thinking about.

Mixer(Behringer DDM-4000 or equivalent) + 2 SCS.3Ds
Now this would look pretty disproportionate size-wise, but it would allow for me to get some CDs/vinyls into the setup easier when that time comes.

Mixer + Midi Controller + 2 SCS.3Ds
All 4 decks would go into the computer then into the mixer via USB audio interface. Is this also really ever done? It seems the easiest work out of the 3 options, but just doesnt seem quite right to me.

So basically, is there anyway to efficiently use these without going for a mixer+CDs/vinyl setup and only use it as an addon? Let me know and thanks in advance.

Ok,

So, the SCS.3ds are MIDI only controllers. No integrated sound card on the units. I have two, and I use them in conjunction with my mixer which has a built in firewire sound card.

I would recommend either going with the SCS.3 system package which includes an SCS.3m mixer type MIDI controller as well and getting a decent low priced sound card (an NI Audio DJ 2 would be perfect). The other route involves an analogue mixer and a sound card with at least 4/8 outs, depending on how many decks you are going to use. I personally prefer the second choice because it gives me more immediate control of my eqs and levels in a manner I'm used to, but that's a personal preference, not a criticism of the product itself.

So, it really comes down to what you like. Every product has it's supporters and detractors, and I am definitely in the first camp, as I got my first SCS.3d the day they were released. I feel these units have amazing potential in the right hands, and have served me well over the past year.
