    About those red-levels:

I started out on around -4dB on the channel faders and way less on the master output and it seemed decently loud. But of course this was loud enough for me because the DJ booth was basically filled with almost the complete PA system of the +4 floor; except for 1 or 2 speaker near the bar.

After my first 30 minutes or so, someone who supposedly was part of the bar staff told me to turn it up a bit. Told him I could only go a little bit higher as the system wasn't loud enough, not me, nor the mixer. Slowly pushed the master to about 0dB at this point. Still, people would complain about it not being loud enough.

I started doing something I'd normally not do. I began to slightly increase the volume a little more getting some red-levels. I really couldn't hear any clipping distortions so I figured it'd be alright. Also, I know that it's not so uncommon for club mixers to operate at these level, even when used by highly professional DJs. But as I said, it's still something I usually try to avoid.

The amateur part here was that I totally forgot about the recording and that it might be a little more sensitive to clipping than the system

And one more about those red levels.

I am one of the red riders on the +4bar, but that was done very much on purpose. The thing is after the first 4 people within the first half hour had come up to me and ask to turn up the volume, I had to make a choise. The floor was really rocking and people where all about hands in the air, but there where no more power to squize out of the amp. So the choise wasnt really that hard. Many would propably chosen differently, but I chose to fuck the clipping and crank up the gain, since the soundquality didnt seem to suffer very much.

So instead of worrying about the sound being perfect, we had an amayzing party, with people going crazy. I figured it was all about keeping the floor happy and having a fantastic party. The sound system just wasnt ready for such an amayzing party

Yeah the PA was pretty silent. Once a room fills up you have to increase the volume. Well the recording isn't that important. Even low quality will do it. The sets in the Globus are lacking lows heavily but I also didn't change it.

I worried more about the Globus-soundsystem which sounded really bad at the start. The kicks weren't crips at all. Luckily the soundguy turned up the volume during Arne's set so it got better.
Still the PA was broken and there was already a new one there. The soundguys just didn't have time (were to lazy) to set it up.

I allready wondered about the minimally missing lows on the recording. But thats not anywhere near bad, could be worse. I´m just glad the lows have been there live once the soundguy cranked it up. I mos def didnt have the balls like KTIT and Lasse to start going into red Although i only had someone come up once demanding to raise the volume. And this was before the sound got cranked up. Once cranked the crowd was happy i think.

Its kinda a shame that they´ve been "too lazy" to setup a non-broken PA. If not for us or the DMC Champ, then atleast for them punters. What good does it bring if a 1536kbps .vob sounds like a generic 256kbps mp3 or worse?
