I wouldn't say drum n bass is dead, or that it will ever die. I think every music genre in the world evolves and changes with the times. From my perspective as an Old-Skool Junglist, I've seen my favourite genre evolve into Drum n Bass through the 90's. Now everyone back then said Jungle had died and that Drum n Bass had taken its place. Nonsense!

If you listen to DnB tunes, you can clearly hear all the things that have been taken from Jungle and just merged into something new and fresh. The beauty of this is that a lot of the things people love about Drum n Bass can be found in Jungle, which is why it as a genre has never died. Especially now with the slight decline in popularity of DnB, loads of Junglist movements have started up again to my delight!

The same process can be seen within Dubstep, it seems the most popular Dubstep tunes are ones that share the same characteristics to DnB tunes. Which is why you see the likes of Chase n Status and Pendulum delving into the Dubstep arena and gaining mainstream success.

While on the subject of Dubstep, can I just say I'm really disappointed atm with the amount of crap tunes there are about. I've followed it avidly for the past 4 years and seen a very shakey musical progression. I LOVE the concept and tbh the dirtier the better with me ()
But just because it's dirty doesnt mean it cant be musical, or intelligent, or even a song. I'm tired of going to Dubstep gigs where they just play a really boring tune really loud just to make it interesting.

Now I'm all for simplicity, take Skreams remix of the Klaxons - Not over yet. Simple dubstep remix, but at the same time there's a melody, theme and simple progression through the song. Perfect bassy bliss, gets everyone jumpin. So many Dubstep tunes just dont seem to have anything going for them other than Bass these days, some not even melodic bass, just sub and snare!

Ok haha I could go on, rant over! But by god, when I get my studio back watch this space for some decent dubstep. I love it so much, it just needs to be done well!

    Happy xmas all, great forum

Woot! Never seen Benga Mcing, apparently his sets with Skream are amazing though, those two play well together. Were they supporting each other or did he just turn up?

Saw Caspa and Rusko do a huge set at the Big Chill this year and Skream and Benga were up there dancing around on stage, the Dubstep community is really tightknit and friendly over here

Benga was playing after Skream but just appeared on stage and eventually so did a mic!

Skream dropped "Not over yet' that was huge.

I think I would have to say that was the best set/s I have seen in my life, it was like listening to music for the first time or something.

It was a weird gig, it had rained the night before so the entire dance floor was 4" of mud, hence you couldnt really move your feet.

Every time they dropped a new bass line rather than the energetic cheer you get from a crowd there was a delayed moan which was a cross between a "wow" and and groan

The bass was spastic, it was actually causing me to loose balance when it dropped, and when you had your eyes shut you got this tripy synysthesia from the bass pushing your eye lids flat and distorting all the stage lighting that was coming through.
