Bento's smartmixer only works for two channels.

Not going to be able to base a bome's preset on fader position, because volume isn't directly related to fader position (songs can be recorded at different levels). But you COULD take a PFL for each channel, average it over a short timer, and feed that to a global variable. You would also need to have a way of determining a "master" fader (the one that doesn't get ducked). This could be done simply by choosing the last fader to move and feeding that into a variable. You would also need to come up with a ruleset that would determine which fader(s) to bring down, and in what proportion) in order to achieve a mix without going over a specific level. This would probably be based first on the PFL variable, and then on what fader is considered "secondary" (trying to determine what deck you're "mixing out of").

This is an interesting concept, and I have no doubt it could be done in BMTP.

After spending way too long in BMP, i decided that i need to use MAX to handle this properly. So all day today i've been working this out, and well, i'm still pretty much nowhere. Don't get me wrong, i've got a lot of work done, just it's not effective at all yet.
I'm expecting this to take a long time to get working properly, and any feedback is very appreciated.

@nemonic- thanks for the tip on using the PFL, the patch i'm working on now has PFL/AFL for all channels and PFL for the the master. Which all go through several equations before turning into several clusters of somewhat workable varying figures.

Sounds a lot like "Smart Mixing". Do a search for it on this site, or on ALDJ.
