How big of a deal is it that this does not have XLR output and booth output. I have read all that I can about this controller, and these two seem to be the most common complaints people are saying that actually seem legitimate. (this is a toy, will never be in the club complaints are bullshit, DJing has evolved and we are here to stay!)

Yeah the XLR and Booth thing is my biggest concern.
At first i was thinking that i could rock up and take the XLRs out of the club mixer and put them in the KS4 and use one of the outputs for the booth.
Not gonna happen im afraid.
Then i had another think.
NI took the booth output out of Traktor Pro which is a BAD decision in any language. It simply removes an option that a lot of people use. But its gone.
Most DJs use the club mixer. No matter what setup you have, be it DVS or controller with soundcard you always go into the club mixer.
The Kontrol S4 is basically just a conrtoller and a soundcard in one box so why assume that the club mixer will be taken out of the equation..?
(There is a small discussion on the NI forum about what small mixer could be used alongside the KS4 for Mic/Booth etc.)
Well i think the assumption is that because the KS4 has a Mic input then it should be a proper all-in-one solution that can be used WITHOUT and external mixer. Seems fair.
I dont think that NI are arriving at that assumption.
I think the NI beleive that the KS4 will still be used alongside an External Mixer.
This probably means the mic input is pointless. Im not sure it will be usable to do a decent job. I could be wrong.
This is quite a popular gripe. It wont put me off the KS4 but it does mean that i cant use the the Kontroller on its own. I still need and external soundcard or mixer to run a booth and mic off if i dont want to use the clubs mixer.
(I have a gig were not using the club mixer would be an enormous bonus for me and the booth monitor volume is inaccessible)

Agreed.
You could have splitter cable that can send one output to the PA and one to the booth but its not ideal .
Also there are 2 pairs of main outputs on the kontroler. If both are live then you can run a booth off one but i doubt that they will both be live. Shame.
well i understand mic input in KS4. I would much rather control my mic on Controller than on external mixer.

Yeah so would I but are the mic pre-amps good quality.
Is there separate EQ and gain for the mic channel..?
I don't want to use an external mixer I just feel I will need to .
@photojojo, dude u remember that TC Level Pilot I posted about a few weeks back..? That's is an inline level control. I'm thinking of getting one for the S4 if both output are live and if the mic output is loud enough.
The dream is to just use the KS4 and no other external hardware.

While it doesn't have a booth out it does have balanced TRS Main outs, so you just need a pair of 1/4" TRS to XLR cables, so the fact that it doesn't have XLR outs is not a big deal. I use the main outs split to monitor anyways so as long as my monitor chain has a level control somewhere, ie the amp, then it's def workable. I just wish I could route 2 or 4 channels out to my external mixer without having to have a separate soundcard.
