It's a principle, I don't want to use any Apple products
That principle is a bad one to have when you want to get into the music business...

    Why? Because of iTunes?

I just use explorer... I've developed a workflow around specific naming conventions for files and folders, as well as tags.

I keep my collection in folder called FS_SONGS (yes you read that right!!)...been on the DVS train since the original Final Scratch (N2IT)

For me it's not so much an anti-apple mentality, but I tend to live by the OSPF method (Open Shortest Path First) I'm not too concerned with the Traktor iTunes integration... and one less app installed on my laptop.

I also disagree that an association with apple products is a necessity in order to "get into the music business". I produce for a distinguished label, and have never run into issues where I have to convert my "IBM" (hehehe) content to apple or otherwise... I've never run into issues with the label sneering at my PC Cubase files and the like. Had apple not killed off PC support of Logic Audio back in the day, I may have bought a capable mac and I wouldn't be writing this post.... Besides, when I'm done they usually end up with a WAV anyways.. Does this mean there isn't mac snobbery going on in the biz?? definitely not... I have first hand knowledge of a producer, who purchased a macbook pro for the sole purpose of not being discriminated by "colleagues"... and so the macbook is used primarily for email and surfing.

Otherwise, Trainspotter has been discussed on this board on the past, a quick search should get you started

Rather than start a new thread, can anyone tell me how to organise my music by key in Itunes after I've ran it through Mixed in Key?

I can't find Initial Key (like in windows) in the drop down toolbar at the top . I only get artist, genre, bpm etc, but nothing for key.

Could you maybe give an example of how you organize? I'm also just using the explorer + mp3tag + foobar2000 atm. My problem is mainly the explorer part. I've just split my #SIGNLE TRACKS folder into genre; 'Dubstep', 'Techno, minimal', 'house, tech house, deep', and then I modify the genre in mp3tag or foobar2000

    decon:

    First thing's first...

Since there isn't a "defacto" standard, the method you adopt will be as close as it gets... i.e. the way that makes you feel comfortable will be the best (and only) way.

I start with creating folders named for the genre. It goes something like this <GENRE> - <SUBGENRE>

eg. "House - Deep" and in goes all my deep house. As you can imagine, these folders get quite large... However you need to distinguish your tracks beyond that is up to you. The key is to maintain the metadata (tags)

NOTE: one of the coolest things about Tag&Rename (softpointer) is that you can populate tags based on root folder name.... this means if you have all your Deep House tracks in a folder called "House - Deep" then you can use that to populate the genre tag!! A great time-saver.

To make a long story short... I end up with a folder called "FS_SONGS" and underneath, a bunch of sub-folders called....

    House - Deep
    House - Hard
    House - Deep-Vocal
    House - Minimal

    You get the idea....

NOW.... because this "master folder" can grow... I keep a running folder of the same name and it is a subset of the master folder (to keep current and to keep the disk footprint small). I created a batch file that creates an empty folder structure with all my genre-folder-names... then (in explorer) I pick and choose my tracks dragging them into their respective working folders. (sheesh, this sounds complicated...but it really isn't)

Because I keep a master folder with every track I have, and the size is large, I don't want to bring it all...(there's no need) instead I create smaller versions with only the tracks I intend on playing. I've found that my playlists don't change too much, and there's very little maintenance in adding/striping a few new songs each week. The beauty of it is, I can delete songs on my laptop without worry cuz I'm working with a master and working folder.

    confused yet?

right or wrong for the masses; I do it this way cuz it works for me.
