I think its awesome that a controllerist DJ community is in favor of keeping DMC TT and mixer only. It shows that we are all about technology and pushing the limits wth our fancy doo-dads but still level headed enough to see the DMC for what it is and always has been.

    +1 for the DJTT community.

I for one would watch more pro sports if there was a chance that someones head might blow in the middle of a game.

DMC is about turntablism, it's never been about including all types of djs - just turntablists and that's why i love it. i hope they never change it.

it would be cool to see a DMC type contest for controller DJs though.

If they want to keep it old school, no custom Y vinyls...just saying.

+1 on keeping DMC a turntablist competition. Duerr is right, they never had been about inviting all kinds of djs (or else we'd have seen guys like Mark Farina and Carl Cox in the 90s) but only bringing the absolute best turntablists and having them throw down. Sure the judges like stuff that most of the time is just an exercise in "how many click-ism" and body tricks and is not very appealing to my ears thats fine, it's their competition and if they want to keep it an exercise in virtuosity it's ok. Remember that DJing itself is in it's infantile stage and people are still concerned with virtuosity (which I think is just a reactionary thing that all musical styles go through) there isn't a super mega guitar competition so I think that DMC will either evolve or lose relavance over time. Eventually everyday people will be able to reproduce the cuts of the guys that are winning that same year. Everyday bedroom djs will just continue to get better at turntablism. So yeah that really is off topic lol sorry, there;s a point in there somewhere I swear

As far as making a controllerism competition, I think it would be difficult to pull off. Would guys like shiftee run the thing for the most part? Do you make a standardization of gear or let people bring whatever they want? Just things to think of if you were to start the thing, not to mention the fact that the established musician community has really just come around to believing that djing is a musical endeavor, just think how much worse it would be if they saw a bunch of guys mashing the shit out of a pair of Midifighters and a VCI 100se...it would take a bit of time to get used to to my mind

I remember growing up loving the Ultimate Fighting Championships because they pitted styles against each other... As people fought each other under the any style goes premise, a new style emerged in Mixed Martial Arts.

Would love to see a competition like that among Djs, where anything goes. DMC could sponsor it, but wouldn't have to... We probably need more big name controllerists before something like that happens though.
