    Default How to make a Super Delay Knob (tutorial for easy freezes)

    So I recently saw in one of Ean Golden's videos that he had created a "super knob" that switched his FX Unit 1 from Chained to Advanced. Not only that, it also set the effect to delay, turned it on, and once on the knob controlled the Dry/Wetness. The whole point of this is to quickly use your Delay to set a Freeze, the easiest way to mix songs of drastically different tempos. What I wanted, was to have a knob that I use for my Chained effects switch to this Super Knob whenever I press a button.

    And though I searched, I didn't find any guides on how to do this advanced modifying. But after a lot of trial and error, I managed to get my own super knob working, hopefully this will help some people out and I hope this isn't a repost.

    NOTE: You can skip every Modifier step if you want a knob to be solely dedicated to the Delay. Personally, I use all my knobs already so the Modifiers allow you to switch back and forth between, for example, a Gain knob and the Super Delay Knob.

    EDIT: Had to add the first step

    First off, go into your Preferences and then Controller Mapping.

    Find whatever knob it is you want to Modify. Say it's one of our gains, find it on the list of controls and bring it up.

    Change its Modifier Conditions -> M1=0

    Now we set up our Modifier

    Add In -> Modifier #(doesn't matter, I'll use 1)

    Go ahead and Learn a button you plan on using to turn this modifier off and on. We'll call it BUTTON just for the sake of this tutorial.

    Set the Modifier Conditions to M1 = 0

    Change the Type of Controller to a Button and make the Interaction Direct

    Set to Value 1

    Alright, So now our button turns a Modifier on. We'll set it to turn the mod off and switch the FX Unit to Chained at the end. But for now we need the knob to Open up the Advanced FX Panel and set it to Delay.

    Add In -> Global -> FX Panel Mode

    Make sure the Assignment is set to FX Unit 1

    Learn the same knob as before

    Modifier Conditions -> M1=1

    Type of Controller -> Button

    Interaction -> Direct

    Set to Value -> Advanced

    Alright, now when we use the knob FX Unit 1 will switch from Chained to Advanced. At this point, switch your advanced effect to Delay and press the camera button directly to the left of the D/W knob. This will store your advanced mode preset to Delay.

    Next up! Changing the knob to D/W and making sure our Delay is On when the Modifier is on (M1=1)

    Add In -> FX Advanced -> Effect On

    Learn the same knob

    Make sure the Assignment -> FX Unit 1

    Set Modifier Conditions -> M1=1

    Type of Controller -> Button

    Interaction Mode -> Hold

    For the D/W

    Add In -> FX Advanced -> Dry/Wet Advanced

    Learn same knob

    Modifier Value -> M1=1

    Type of Controller -> Encoder -> Relative

    Huzzah, we've got a knob that switches our FX to Advanced, turns Delay On, and sets the knob as the D/W. You're gonna want to set a button to FX Advanced -> Effect Button 1 to set that freeze up. Finally we just need a button that will turn off our Modifier and change everything back to Chained.

    Modifier -> Modifier #1

    Learn the BUTTON from the beginning

    Modifier Value -> M1=1

    Type -> Button

    Interact -> Direct

    Set to Value -> 0

    Now to change it back to chained

    Add In -> Global -> FX Panel Mode

    Learn the same BUTTON

    Modifier Value -> M1=1

    Type -> Button

    Interaction -> Direct

    Set to Value -> Chained

    There ya go! Lemme know if you have any questions

    This is one of the most helpful posts I have read on this site. I've been trying to figure out how to make super knobs like this for a while but there is not a whole lot out there that gives such a detailed step by step explanation for the midi illiterate like myself. Thank you!

    Very nice. I'll try this out and see how it works.
