i don't miss beat matching at all. if someone thinks you need to beat match to be a dj they obviously have no idea what makes a real dj i.e.
- tune selection
- music collection

no argument there, that's the number one requirement.
performance, most definitely yes. but appearance... who gives a fuck? you're playing music. no need to dress up.
always have a crowbar handy... personally, I'm working on installing a (MIDI-controlled) spike launcher in each of my flightcases.
i love how some people like to give out about sync on traktor, the main skill behind traktor is how creative your mapping is, sure even put on a show, disable your jog wheels and pitch fadders and leave auto sync on
. its like using a boat to get from england to america when planes are there for that purpose... technology is to help us, im a computer geek at heart that came from a production and recording backround, technology has helped us a lot.... why not just explain to the dude your not a dj, your a "controllerism artist" if he's drunk enough he will have a think, probly go a bit blank and walk away confussed

For me, the important parts are:
Song Selection (which computers suck at)
Programming (which computers suck at)
Phrase Matching (which computers may never be able to do)
Hard Liquor (which computers suck at…my laptop can NOT hold its liquor)
Caffeine (which is an awesome OS X app)
and
Caffeine (which keeps me from killing people)
turntables, pfffffffffff. check out this picture of me rocking out with my DIY dj wrecktools analogue tape fighter console last saturday! bitches love it! brrrrrrrrrrrap!!

I heart sync! I can also beatmatch and mix with my eyes closed.
