Any "respectable" person living north of Carlisle knows that you can fry anything in batter.
Anything.

They have fried beer, ice cream, Twinkies, Coke, peanut butter and jelly and banana sandwichs, Banana Split, Fritos Pie, and even butter at the state fair here.
Store bought pumpkin pie can be pretty bland but a good homemade pumpkin pie is fantastic.
Karlos (and others),
Yes, I deep fried my turkey.
I did not batter it. I brined it overnight and fried it in peanut oil. It is NOT the same as roasting. It takes less time (it took me about 23 minutes with a 12lb bird), and the color was fantastic. Also, because of th ebrine and the cooking method the meat (specially the white meat) was SO damn tender and juicy. It is the best white meat you'll ever have...it doesn't need gravy or anything.
Frying is rapidly catching on as a new fad in the States.
No doubting that i bet it tastes fantastic but frying a turkey just seems so odd.
Its like boiling Pizza (as Bill Hicks would say).
Also, hasnt America always fried stuff... I though that was the cooking method of choice.
I dont think anyone deep fries anything but chips (fries) in UK these days apart from in Scotland were they deep fry their Chips in Crack hahaha Just kidding Archie !!!
