I agree with padi some competition will push the big names to keep improving.

OSS tends to beat commercial software in the long term. It pretty much dominates all serious computing at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years hardware companies embraced OSS apps as "hardware drivers", saving them from paying the heinous Traktor or Ableton taxes.

That isnt even remotely true. There are probably more than 30 Beta testers nevermind the Devs etc working on Traktor.

How can that possibly be a reality. It just doesnt make sense.
How are Mixxx going to develop beyond NI with all their resources and, and their clear aptitude for getting it right.

I know this is an emotive subject for some and its impossible to have an opinion, which if you show any slight descent for Open Source your branded as a corporate whore but for the most part Open Source DJ software is a hobbyist thing. Its cool, its free, its interesting etc... but lets keep it real (just a bit) its never gonna catch up.

    Agree on all points.

    Default hi

Traktor has 30 beta testers lol. Mixxx has a couple of thousand. I love Traktor and serato but from a programmers point of view there not that far ahead. Most inovation comes from open source not connercial software. Look at the the features microsoft and apple copy off linux. The whole idea of a gui was given to them by xerox.

Wasn't Ms Pinky doing the timecode Ableton thing long before Serato came about?

Bottom line: is Mixxx there yet? Nope. Wake me up if it ever surpasses Traktor.

Yeah, it looks nice and everything. Not sure how this 'innovation' chat applies to mixxx though, as I don't see any innovation in its present incarnation at all.

It has a software hack that allows you to use timecode vinyl without a photo pre amp. Pretty cool, no?

Also an anti-skip feature that ignores sudden and dramatic changes in record position. *edit- needle position I mean.
