Travis... does Torq permanently edit the file, or is it only while it is playing?

Torq writes a seperate file to the HD containing all modified track information (cue points, anchors, etc). This is presented in the form of a .tqd file that resides in the same folder as the music file.

This makes your music collection very portable. If you know someone else using Torq, just bring your portable HD. All your relevant track modifications are always present, plug-n-play.

Also, as a side-note, there is a big difference right there from Ableton to Torq. Ableton lets you permanently change the song itself with the warping function, whereas Torq does not.

After you export or render the song, yes.

Exactly Chilly, thank you. Torq is doing the same thing with the .tqd file. No one is trying to turn Torq into a DAW. That market is covered!

This is the one area I wish M-Audio would allow more flexibility in. Torq does offer point and click midi-learn. Super knobs would probably require some Bomes translating. I know people have setup browser control in Torq this way.

However, let it be known that unless you're running an Xponent.. you won't be able to map the jog wheels properly. M-Audio is probably not in a rush to implement this for obvious reasons (*cough* VCI-100). You time-code users have nothing to worry about.

Just remember, unlike Vestax and other major midi controller markets out there, M-Audio actually has its own DJ Software to try and funnel the consumers into.

Torq supports 14-bit midi for the pitch faders btw. Also worth mentioning is chained FX and snapshots.

The warp stuff from Torq isn't interesting for me (play only electronic stuff), but think I like the more straight forward work flow.

regarding snapshots, you could do something similar in TP, it has some limitations (you need to hit the button twice to aktivate the effect).

I case you haven't noticed, you can map effects with settings to an individual button.

For example: I have two buttons that change to reverb with my favourite setting.

*Just bind a button to "effect select" direct and select a FX
*the same button to "effect param" with direct and select a value

* In addition you could add "effect on" to the list to activate the FX at once when you press the button (only downside: you have to press the button twice - one for select, one for on - maybe a later feature request... ). With hold & toggle you can decide if the effect is only active as long as you press it or if it should stay active, great!

Just play around with it and I think you can see the possibilities. Especially with "effect on"+ "hold" you really can paint with effect in a subtle way (like accent a beat with a reverb).
