You can't seriously call this software cheap. Just think that NI is going to milk you for around $100 every time they add another feature. With the limited improvements they put into each iteration, it'd be quite expensive to be running Traktor. I guess that sync button is worth it to some of you guys? :-p
Serato drops upgrades FOR FREE, so your software can still have that new feature smell 2 years from now. Sure, the hardware is mad expensive, but it's solid and can take a beating. MIDI mapping is so easy a child could do it. Click what you want to control, push the button you want to control it with. Colored waveforms? Awesome, but old news. Want to lend your friend your S4 for 2 weeks? Can you even (leagally) do that without him having to buy software? I have TSP, I can plug in on most other DJ's systems and play my set seamlessly. Does Traktor let you do that? (Honest question) I don't understand the rabid fanboyism with Traktor, it's a big reason I'm not on these forums much anymore. I just don't understand the hype, seems like those Apple fanboys that paid $500 for the iPhone.

Thing is, I'm looking for a system to go with currently, but I'm not getting regular gigs anymore, so I can't put too much money into this. Mixx looks really good if I'm starting from scratch, but I'll always keep a copy of SSL and Itch installed. (Because they're free) If I do start getting gigs, it's going to be Serato with the video plug-in. Drunk chicks love music videos.

The point is you don't HAVE to pay!! Stick with what you've got if you are happy.

Saying that Serato hardware can take a beating justifies its extortionate cost is pure madness!!! Shit buy 2 TA10 for the cost of SL4 and if one breaks you have another!!

I started with SL1 many years ago and i loved it so i have nothing against Serato. All im saying is that if you want a top quality product you should be happy to pay top dollar!! IMHO people who complain about the cost are exactly the same as the people who complain about the cost of MP3's and download illeagle!! We all want something for nothing but in the end stuff you get for free ends up being extremely LOW quality!!

    Just saying.

To me the whole thing is preference, and money management. I have not really been in the DJing scene too long so I can't comment on the upgrades that Traktor provides, at all. To me though, the whole thing is if you can't pay for every update, pick and choose when you want to upgrade. It's the same thing with everything. All that matters is that are you willing to wait and then spend your money for a larger upgrade? Or do you want a smaller upgrade now? It's the same thing with the whole iPhone thing, people just don't want to wait to get a better value for their money. As long as people continue to be this way companies will continue to do what they are doing, and will continue to milk it.

Companies are here to make money. End of story. They will do whatever they can to maximize profit. Serato is smart, they have a niche market that they milk.

If you can rock the scene with Serato, do it! Honestly, who cares what software you are using? A few people on here use it as well. I was at the DJTT SoCal meet up, and when JesC (he's a moderator) and Xtianw were spinning they were using Serato and it was really cool.

The reason I like these forums is because of the wealth of knowledge available, the lack of people hating on you for what your music medium choice is.

The fact that SSL software is free is undoubted.

The whole "Traktor cost money and SSL is free" is the biggest misconception in digital djing.

I own an iPhone not because I'm a crazy Apple fan, but because to me it's still the best smartphone available to date. And I only paid 199$ for it

I also own an SL3 and I absolutely love Serato's free updates. Almost two years later, I feel that my investment is still paying off with all the new features and improved functionality provided to me free of charge. I use it for traditional two-deck mixing with manual beatmatching and it works just great.

Neither of the above has anything to do with the fact that I also own an S4 and love Traktor for its great auto-sync functionality, sample decks and superb FX. I use it for three-deck + one sample deck mixing with auto-sync and a ton of complex/automated FX controlled with a secondary controller and it does that perfectly.

Traktor, Serato and iPhone are all different things. Each one of them is a great solid commercial product that's good for certain things. It's your choice which one(s) you want or don't want to buy.

Anyone who says the updates are free are just lying to themselves. You just pay the cost up front that's all. Serato has a great product but it's different than Traktor in many many ways which is a good thing because it gives us all options on how WE want to DJ. I don't understand people coming on here and bashing people calling them fanboys and we only use traktor for Sync. That's just ignorance. Yes some people may buy traktor because it has the sync button and that may be there bag. But honestly who cares that's them not everyone or you or all us fanboys who hype Traktor all to hell.

Point is everyone hypes there products. If we feel it's worth it to pay them for new features and for working on some really great software then great that's our choice. Why that should bother anyone is beyond me. Billions of people have payed far more for far less.

Couldn't tell if you are being serious here but if so I would suggest your pet troll is about as informed as your namesake. :-p
I paid 200USD for traktor pro 2 years ago...haven't dropped a dime on new features or software updates since.
