This reminds of when I was about to get a job as a wedding DJ I checked their cite and one of the review said something like this: "the dj SUCKED! I couldn't even tell when he was changing songs..I will never go through this company again".....hahahaha

MAN, what a compliment! However that's not how they meant it.

if you're usually an edm dj and would like a controller to rock the house parties better, still have a super mobile set up for the paying gigs (rock n disco) then get a Vestax Typhoon. you'll have a good quality controller, jog wheels, Traktor LE and an audio interface for $350. Option 2; look for an audio 2 dj card from NI, an Xsession Pro from m-audio and an lpd8 from Akai - that'll give you faders, buttons, knobs gallore. still super portable. Option 3; if you don't care about faders - get an Audio 2 dj and a Kontrol X1.

    those are my three suggestions.
btw - this was not your first REAL gig - give yourself some credit. the house parties require more work and thought. the people you're djing for appreciate it more too. just because you get paid with cigs and booze doesn't mean its not a gig. but it i know what you mean, it's nice to get paid to do it

hahahahaha I'm looking for it right now, if I find it i'll post a picture. I thought it was hilarious. Most of the parties I "DJ" I have to play top 40 stuff where I can only mix the outro and intro and the crowd likes it. They just wanna hear their favorite songs. Personally I don't love or hate top 40 music, but after a few drinks I def don't mind it

Naw man if you're looking for effects and ableton mapping look at the APC40 got to feel one in person last weekend and I started drooling on how smooth everything feels and how it looks.

yea but, maybe i wouldn't want to use ableton? I don't like how the apc40
    s are bound to ableton.

im not going to read all of this but:

there are times to be an artist, and times to be a jukebox. its a matter of knowing when.

if you need to play top 40, by all means be a jukebox, but throw in some artistic flair.

if you need to play for an older crowd, your itune's genius playlist thing. only you have ears.

Yah I rock a vestax typhoon, Kontrol x1 and Traktor Pro. I went with the typhoon cuz when i started i had a PC. The typhoon is a great controller, and when u throw an X1 into the mix its a pretty good set up.

And i totally agree about the house parties. If i know the group im playing to I put more work into the prep and getting everything ready. I did a house party for my buddys 23rd birthday this past wkend and showed up around 11, there was some kid there DJ'n with an ion controller and what looked like the softwear that came with it. He was playing rap/hip hop/top 40. Everyone was just standing around, playing flip cup and talking. I jumped in (after the kid argued with me) and agreed i'd let him start playing again if i couldnt get everyone dancing. First thing i threw on was Dubstep and some EDM (like i said i knew the crowd) everyone freaked out "no fucking way! he's got skrillex!!!!" "Dude I Love Rusko" needless to say the other kid packed his shit up and left.

At the end of the night, about 20 ppl thanked me for DJ'n and told me i made the party. So I think DJ'n for the right group of people and really getting into it is more rewarding than getting paid at the end of the night.
