But I could barely get to the booth and didn't have room to even bend down to get my cables, let alone a CD out to give to the DJ, who wasn't even paying attention to me trying to communicate with him.

But yeah, this is normally what I do both when I get on, and when I get off and it's a super smooth way to transition... if you have the appropriate mix in hand.
It the guy was going head to head with you, thats what security is there for.

If the security has to deal with someone who is 'vouched' for or there at the invitation of a manager, then they wont be shy when it comes to telling the manager to keep his friends in line.

Always remember, you are there as an employee and are afforded the same rights as the people taking the door cash and the people pouring drinks.

I actually disagree, as a DJ I have much more pressure and responsibility than a bartender. If a bartender makes a mistake, they ruin a drink. If I make a mistake, I ruin the dancefloor.

To me, DJs do need extra attention and focus because we show up with thousands of dollars worth of equipment. I'm not saying anyone should kiss my ass and pamper me but there is less margin for error as a DJ, compared to someone at the door giving back the wrong change, or a bartender dropping a glass on the floor.

There's a fine line between unthinkable and what is justifiable - I think you will get a lot of support on this forum. On a forum of Good Social Behaviour you will probably get as much. You're a DJ - not a door mat.

[btw - any relation to Aril Brikha]

Regardless if justifiable (because it has its pro's and con's of standing up to a manager), I think it's interesting to see just how these things pan out for different people in different situations. I mean, the situations are as unique as there are characters and types of people but yeah, feels good to hear people agree with you, of course.

Yes, yes... Aril, is my brother.

The manager very often is the least appreciative of your skills and talents - he's too busy focussing on the bottom line. Sadly we spend as much time on pleasing them as we do our audience - its the manager that pays you. Its your audience that allows him to do so. You were true to yourself.

Please be so kind as tell Aril that not a gig goes by without me dropping "Winter" and "Berghain" - in my opinion, 2 of the finest tracks in my collection. Legendary.
