How loud are these things anyway?? If i was to turn it up halfway on a club mixer, would i destroy my ears straight away. Or would i have to crank it on full blast for a while? Might sound crazy to ask this, but apparently they are quite dangerous at high levels!

with a proper seal and in a very loud room I average at keeping mine at 1/4 way up. Loudest I have EVER had em was half and thats because I was a little intoxicated and in a SUPER loud room.

hey alright. thanks man. I'm thinking of just sticking to my IEMs for now, since i alrdy have em, so i can save some cash instead of spending on the headphones. Quite used to the over-the-ear iems alrdy, can take em out and let em hang by the ear no prob.

New research shows that IEM's might actually be BETTER in the long run (NOT for exercising though) due to ambient noise reduction and a tendency to lower volumes with IEM's. IEM's for exercise are a NO-NO. There is increased blood flow to the ear during exercise which can damage the ossicles - those crappy iPod 'phones DO have SOME merit.

I just got some Shure 425 and I'm going to try them out this weekend on a gig.

Just how loud do you guys turn it up on the mixer when using in ear monitors? because with regular headphones I tend not to go pass half way on the volume.

that so much depends on the mixer output and the headphones. usually bigger headphones need alot more power while iems need the least.

when an iem fits your ear real good you dont need much power anyways due to the high isolation from the room.
