If you could that would be great! Thanks man.

When are you next playing there? Would love to come over and check the place out.

I know a couple of people that go to the Jailhouse for a change from Worcester's standard top40 now and again, but have never gone myself.

If they were against drum n bass, the above is not adapting to their music choice. Situations like these really call for a real genre change - try out some hip hip, top 40, or 80s music or something. You can even lead into a set like that with a drum n bass remix of some cheesy pop song. Playing different styles of dnb is not adapting to the crowd unfortunately.

Surely it was the promoters fault for hiring drum and bass DJ's for a mainstream club night playing to a top40 crowd?
Definitely the promoter's fault, but that doesn't matter -- your job as the DJ in a situation like this is to deal with the mess the promoter left you. Pointing fingers at who's to blame and saying "not my fault" might work in politics but it's not that helpful in the middle of a set. Chalk this up to experience and throw a pop/top 40 set into your hard drive so if it happens again you're still ready to rock the crowd.

Personally i would have tried some more mainstream stuff and sprinkled in some DnB, that's just me. I understand you were hired for a DnB set but I'd rather have the crowd on my side when I leave.

Yeah well we aren't too keen on playing top40 hence why we didn't have any on the hard drive "/

But we might take on the 80's idea and get some mash ups on the go

But that club didn't seem our scene as the booth was clean, there were no vinyl decks (so we couldn't use our time code), everything worked and there wasn't the traditional mountain of CD's in the booth (have found some real treats when setting up )

Oh well, you win some you loose some . .

Drum & Bass without subs??? Oh man that must have been painful. Being asking to leave? Adding insult to injury right there, at least they did so kindly.

(literally played every sub genre - liquid, jump up, neurofunk) and no one enjoyed it! . . .
Clearly not , you're forgetting Minimal D&B (which may have gone over ok? Probably not by the sounds of the crowd) and Techstep (there is a fine line between Neuro and Tech, but it probably wouldn't have flown with the crowd, let alone the lack of subs)... then there's probably like 50 other micro subgenres, lol.

We kept trying everything we could do but nout happened and eventually we were asked to leave. But 2 weeks ago we played this exact mix at a night supporting the Scratch Perverts (on a Friday night) and we had so many compliments on a different night and a different club!!

What would you do in this situation??
Just roll with the punches I guess. It was clearly a good set if it went over well supporting the Scratch Perverts.
