platinum notes & mixed in key?

I was just wondering if people on this forum use these softwares?

not having a very musical background would they benifit me or any other users with little musical knowledge? & Are they worth $90 (mixed in key site)?
Do they emhance the mixing experiance or make it more complicated?
Any other software out there do the same thing for less $?

Please dont beat me if this subject has been done before i did search

I'm a PN and MiK user. most people seem to use RE, but it's just too complicated for me to get what i want out of it. Anywho

PN has been AMAZINGLY useful in "normalizing" (it's not normalization, but a slightly cooler concept of dynamic equalization) my hodge podge of records now sound like a collection. I think it's worth the 90 bucks for JUST the adjust to -13db alone. But to adjust the dynamics and fix clipped peaks as well?! awesome The key adjust is useful, but really not essential.

MiK...i think it comes down to preferance. I was willing to pay for software that was simple and I could guarantee would "just work"

I didn't need or want another piece of software I had to fight past a learning curve. MiKs simple interface did that for me. RE is more powerful though for sure.

As far as which one is more accurate? no one can say as both current algorithms are totally evolved from the last analysis that was done back in '06. So just pick which is ur fave.

I love PN, but it takes forever to fix all my tracks, I still have about 5k to go. But its worth how the track sounds at the end, its very clean and crisp.

I use MIK, find it very useful for picking out harmonic mixes.
I don't mind normalizing the odd vinyl rip or web download but I don't fancy having a program go through my library and modify the dynamics of my tracks, so I don't use Platinum Notes.

Youcan get (almost) everything that MIK/PN offers for free. All you can't get is the clipping removed. You'll need 3 pieces of software:

Rapis Evolution : Will calculate Key and BPM, and organise your tracks
MP3GAIN : Will adjust all of your .mp3 files to the same level (normalise)
WAVGAIN : Will adjust all of your .wav files (as above)

All of 'em are FREE!

word, Ive been using MIK for awhile now and the benefits from harmonic mixing are great, it makes your mixes a lot smoother and gives better transition between tracks i would have never experimented with together previous to using this prog, i think it also adds a lot more structure and depth to a set as well.

I've used mp3gain before.

PN is far more sophisticated than what mp3gain does. mp3 gain simply adds a gain tag in the id3 notes.

Sorry, for me that's just not good enough.

So I spent the 5 weeks it took me to analyze my 50k+ tracks through PN and they sound...literally amazing. <3

Just a note, I got PN for one feature only though. clipped peak rounding. With so many people mixing hot, this was a HUGE selling point for me. It really makes a HUGE difference to round out those clipped peaks. Especially on a large system. Not to mention adjusting the volume of all the tracks to the same? SWEET! my gain knobs are growing dust!
