Default A few things I'd like some input on

    Hey everyone,

just wanted to know if anyone is messing around there own mappings for the s4.

In my experience with the s4 so far compared to my denon x120 mixer and an X1 is that the s4 is more of a "fader mixer" then a "gain mixer"

I don't really mind the gain knobs being encoders with the click reset.

I try to keep all the levels 2 leds away from the clip and 1 away on master level.

I think its kind of funny that the master knob doesn't actually change any levels?

Not a big deal I guess cause in most instances it would be easier to run the s4 into a mixer on a single channel, in which case you can monitor the clipping on the mixer.

Does anyone wanna share there approaches to keep the leveling in the ok zone?

Can you map the "on air" indicators for visual feedback?

Is there anyway to change the sensitivity of the jog wheels? At factor settings its ALMOST exactly 1 full turn for 4 bars. Its like.. 335/360 vor a full turn.

I was thinking of trying to emulate some scratching/juggling techniques and I came up with this:

Using a turntable to scratch is an absolute perspective while using a jog wheel that isnt motorized is a relative perspective. If I could get the jog to be percise enough (IE: 1 full rotation =4 bars) I might actually be able to come up with a musical arrangement.

    Discuss!

The thing with the gain is that the master led's on the s4 correspond with the master led's in Traktor so if they red line you need to adjust the master within Traktor and not the master knob on the s4 as the s4 master is post software. I tend to keep my Traktor master volume at about -9 or -10db. If your individual channels start to clip/red line then you need to adjust the individual channel gain encoders. But they seem to drift quite wildly from song to song. You enjoying the s4 these first few days you've had it? What plans do you have for your own mapping? What kind of things do you feel need changing?

I'm still deciding as I figure out what works best for me.

I don't think having sample decks in both c and d make good use out of four decks.

I always said I would only experiment with 2 decks until I had my own four deck mixer. Now I have one and its pretty deadly.

I am thinlking 3 decks and one sample deck. Most people say its difficult to have any more then 3 at once. So I think this is a good balance.

Depending on the control I desire over the sample decks I was thinking I would remap the effection section as filters or volume control for individual slots.

I am thinking that I will only be using vocal ish samples and what I mean is that the samples don't deal with keeping the rhythmn(I can't spell) going.

Maybe even my own vocal samples.

Just pretty much two deck mixing across 3 channels. Then if I hook something good I can keep going while being able to keep progressing through the mix. Rub one off scratching the sample decks relatively decretely inside the mix. I get a fix and a chance to play more care free while the primary mix is going.

With that workflow idea I don't think ill need anymore control of the sample deck than currently availible. So that's not that big a deal anymore. But,

Adjust the sensitivity of the jogs so I can more accurately jog thru tracks so I can more effectly do a beat juggle throw back into some of my routins I'm working on.

4 band eq because I don't really like the filters in traktor ill just use eq and map a filter button somewhere else. I like the advanced filter on the setting that isn't djm, can't think of name off hand. So maybe super knob that.

Maybe a beatmasher in place off sample triggers in track decks.

    Nothing really major I guess.

I have an x1 i haven't put in yet. I wanna get used to the s4 cause I'm still a bit tangled on deck switch.

I'm starting to get used to the feel of internal mixer now...DEADLY

Oh... I had some farts due to latency but they never went off beat. Haha its like the entire program gets beatmasher and it falls apart a little bit and comes back together.

Long post but imn super stoked about the s4

I have the x1 that I haven't integrated into the setup yet when I add that it might be so I don't have to switch back and forth on the s4.

    Well have to see.

As for the latency? If I turn it up will it stop it from tripping out?
