I have owned the beats for about 2 years now.

Sound quality: boosted bass. Not for producing but great for ipod edm hip hop etc. Not so good for Classical or Jazz (esp. piano).

Sound insulation is quite good actually. I've played in front of massive speakers and was still able to cue and eq.

    The bad:
-build is ok. this is built with durability sacrificed for style in mind.
-Running out of batteries also sucks, sound degrades once the batteries are weak (led becomes yellow). I carry spares in my dj bag.
-the worst though is the grounding or the internal amp which boosts all the noise floor of your gear. you will hear the xone 92 lfo clicks, some light sources will cause a humm...

recommend? no sir. Waiting for them to die cause I can't justify plopping another $400 for a pair of hdjs.

    dont buy beats
    so many fakes floating around

you can buy them for as low as $40 and they look pretty close to the original

google up on how to tell between a fake beats and a real one - there are so many articles out there , my friend even bought one from dealextreme, damn they look just like the real thing, even the packaging looks close!

Don't mean to jack this thread but you guys recommend HDJ 500s over 1000s?

Different strokes for different folks. I have the 500s, like 'em. I'm sure the 1000s are good too. They're bigger and have different hinges. Pick what you prefer.

since you already own them, test if you are fine with them for your bedroom use.

if you can sell them for more than the $175 you payed, go for headphones in the $100 class and invest the rest in music. got the HDJ-500 and they sound pretty good, look good and have 2 detachable cords, a spiral one for djing and a short one for anything else.

I choose the 500's because it was the best value for money. As a bedroomer, multifunction devices are more attractive :P.

This is exactly the weak point of the 1000's. I'd say be a little patient and save for the 2000's if you like Pio's, they are worth the money.

I have the HDJ-1000 and even though the sound quality is excellent for DJing I find them uncomfortable to wear after one hour or so. But thats maybe personal.

Yesterday I got the Klipsch S4i in-ear headphones to change from the hdj. I love them, amazing sound isolation and performance, plus they are super comfortable and fit well in my ear.
