Umm…so…i didn't read any of your replies.
The OP completely missed the point of the guy's flame.
He wasn't hating on controllers, per se. He was hating on what many people do when they don't have to spend time beat matching. Mostly, that turns out to be ruining a track with effects.
And I 100% agree with him (please look at my sig to see if I hate controllers).
It takes balls to stand there and groove out to a good track as opposed to constantly doing something. Learn that first…then maybe sorta kinda think about using effects to spice something up.

True. More time to focus on the crowd and be jamming in your pajamas
I very rarely use effects, only time i ever use them is for a small buildup, or transition'ng, Are you trying to say there are'nt any women at your clubs? Leave the booth for a few minutes and talk to people, and dance! I tend to spend more time on the dancefloor or at the edge of the booth talking to people than i do on the decks.
Ok, i play for a radiohit crowd on a friday+saturday so people dont mind if i leave the same song on for 7 mintutes. but generally people want to hear their song and belt it out to thier hearts content w/o getting confused cos your mashing it up with fx.

I use a couple FX...Delay....Ice Verb and BeatMasher.
Sometimes ...depending on the style and mood...i whip out some others!
I have not even really gotten to combo FX yet....hardly have the need!
But its great to KNOW how to make em and what they will be like....in the event of me wanting to use it.
too much is OVERKILL....
I too feel for the producer....
Thus...remix in style...and you will have their approval too.

No…i subscribe to everything and usually check back.
I just didn't want to read through 3-pages of "no, but I'm a real DJ and some anonymous guy on the internet said I wasn't…waaaah". I'm not saying that's what it was, and I don't mean to insult anyone that posted there…I honestly don't have a clue what was said…it's just happened more than once in the past.
And I use effects too, just like everybody else does…just not every damn minute.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again: the best gear in the world gets the f*** out of my way and lets me play what I hear in my head, whether that's my own guitar riffs, my lame attempts at production, or someone else's full track. Similarly, I kinda feel like the best DJs in the world get the f*** out of the music's way and let it speak for itself…coaxing it along and structuring it the best they can without ruining it.
Well I understand the sentiment. Its the feeling of many many people I go out there and see play, I ask myself how the hell they are even up there. Sure sync helps, but even people on serato wreck, and traktor. Its apparent they never learned to mix without software. I think it is pretty important to learn without software and controllers for a bit. Or if thats all you have at least cover the laptop screen for a while. Not just because of club standard bull, but because it makes you a better DJ, knowing how to build up, mix, learning your songs more, everything. That being said, I enjoy mixing at home without software because its fun and a challenge on harder tracks. When I'm out I use my software to avoid hiccups and have my entire library at my finger tips. But even then I go to some club owners and they want no laptops, so I have the ability to do as such.
I posted this in another thread but this conversation published in Dancecult focuses on this very topic, if anyone's interested: http://dj.dancecult.net/index.php/jo...e/view/104/131
