lol that's being kind. i honestly thought grandmasterflash got a little over-zealous with the backspins in that video.... any one mixing trick/technique is best used sparingly or it will lose it's punch in my opinion. by the third time he did a backspin i was thinkin " again? really? " hahaha...

you guys gotta remember that the oldschool cats had a totally different way of mixing than the way DJs do it now.. in the era of Kool Herc + company, the dj's put more emphasis on track selection over mixing technique which is quite noticable in the grandmasterflash video.

now a days the emphasis seems to be on smooth turntablism/mixing technique and song selection comes secondary. The great modern DJs of our generation balance both technical mixing with great track selection/set structure.

with that said, grandmasterflash is a dope dj.... for an oldtimer

I have to second what duerr said. In a club with great mood going on and that kind of bangers coming out of the speakers you don't have time to remember all of the mixes made before. :P

The mixing wasn't flawless but I definitely would enjoy it muchos while partying my ass off.

Edit: But have to admit, backspin or two too many in 7minutes. :P

I was thinking this myself but thought if i'd have said something i would have all the lovers jump down my throat. He appears to be just scratching and fading nothing groundbreaking at all.

EDIT : Read responses after now .. and agree probably right. I guess its a bit like when all the haters jump on Jeff Mills cus his mixes sometimes trainwreck but i defend him ... only the same i guess

By no way is it ground breaking, but ain't it cool to see someone with his reputation and status put his backing behind digital DJing? And it also helps level the claim that digital apps are only for effects overdosers!

Yeah I was by no means hating, but just expected a touch more from someone who is the main figure-head of traktor skratch.

i imagine Native Instruments chose him for his super recongizable name more than his djing skills.... otherwise they would've went with somebody more like Dj Rafik
