i'm getting an Error No 15024: Boot failed, I'm starting to think that the cable I bought might not be working?

the upgrade pcb is flush with the vci's and i've tried all the com ports, but the upgrade software isn't recognizing the vci on any of the com ports

is there any way to tell if the serial cable i bought is a null modem cable rather than a serial cable? the description of the cable i purchased described it as a db9 serial to serial male to female, not sure where to go or what to try from here

    thanks for the help

    Hey
got real trouble here, maybe you can help. Updated the VCI with a Serial-to-USB AND Serial-to -Serial afterwards, always getting this positive message:

Tried on two win XP - PCs already AND tried with firmware 1.2 and 1.3 - same result. Any Suggestions?

    Hi quentin_konstantino
That's no fun. I'm afraid I don't know an immediate fix for this. I see you've tried it a few times, but maybe re-download the .mot file, try it again from the beginning, checking each step against the video's instructions. Use the serial-serial cable. if that doesn't work, look through this thread to find the posts about adjusting the speed/rate of the transfer (apparently it can be too fast sometimes).

it took me a long time to get it to work, my solution was using a different serial-usb cable. I hope someone with more tech skill than me will post to help you out.

    good luck,
    rite

    Hey,
for those encountering the same problem - you might just be plain stupid, just like me :-D
After performing the update i always tried the confirmation toggle for the 1.3 firmware, pressing the button on the right upper corner of the left jogwheel.

BUT obviosly i was updating to firmware 1.4 -> no confirmation toggle whatsoever. When i tried to launch the disco-mode easteregg it worked -> update complete -> facepalm

    :-)

OK so I just completed the firmware upgrade for my vci which was running 1.2 before. I just want to say, do not take the warnings about the usb to serial cables lightly. I did and figured I could get it to work... After waisting 3 hours of my day I finally decided to go buy a serial to serial cable and use it on my mom's old computer, and of course it worked the first time. If I were djtechtools I would just say DO NOT BUY THE USB TO SERIAL CONVERTERS!! because if you do there is a 90% chance it WILL NOT WORK! I don't know why they don't, but they don't... these converters have been a waste of time for many people on this forum and I hope any future firmware upgraders will heed my warning.
