It's a combonation of facebook and twitter which is intergrated into ALL of googles online products, vastly improved privacy settings and a plethora of privacy features, allows post editing, has the "hangout" video chat rooms which allow you to surf or whatever as a group and is less buggy than facebook even while in beta testing. It is also going to feature apps for all mobile operating systems and some seriously awesome browser plugins and extensions.
Oh- and you can actually delete your data. And they're not selling your data. No joke.
I would say it still needs to integrate into google calendar more so you can share events through it rather than go over to the calendar site. That and some sort of public groups people can join. I'm sure that'll get done at some point, seems pretty obvious.
