Read more here: http://behindthedecks.org/2011/07/13...dont-be-angry/I’ve seen a T-Shirt company called “Angry DJ” that sells T-Shirts with slogans saying “Serato Don’t Make You A DJ” and “I Am Not Your iPod”. It is no surprise to us that there are so many things that make us just damn plain angry. Now while these expressions hit a nerve, offer a sense of universal understanding, and are quite funny, I contend that they are a quick fix in our troubled culture.
Acting out anger doesn’t serve you period. Is it frustrating to see someone who in your opinion is taking the easy way out of DJing? Is it frustrating to be misunderstood by the audience and venue owners? Absolutely on both counts according to a survey of DJs I conducted. The anger you are feeling is expressive of what you are passionate about and that’s great! It means you care about what you are doing and what it means to you in your life. But if you are spending your valuable time being frustrated and angry you are not focusing on what you should be really working on – finding your true audience, working on your skills, and developing your creativity. Anger, much like jealousy ( see Jealousy As a Creative Killer ), is a distraction, a wasted emotion.
I’m sharing this quote from Werner Herzog, famous director, that might lend some perspective on your anger ( read: snap out of it ).
“Quit your complaining. It’s not the world’s fault that you wanted to be an artist. It’s not the world’s job to enjoy the films you make, and it’s certainly not the world’s obligation to pay for your dreams. Nobody wants to hear it. Steal a camera if you have to, but stop whining and get back to work.”

Hahahaha still cant get over all the morons stating "real dj", define a real fucking dj ha.... You cant because its a misconcieved image that has been made up in your head, someone that uses two turntables and a mixer to play music, The term dj stands for disk and then jockey is a term for boy?, there is nothing that states what you do with it, since i have a hard DISK drive and I am male technically im a dj, the people that throw the term "real dj" around lots really need to step outside that shitty little box they seem to live in...

A "real DJ" is somebody who spins discs on TTs or CDJs with no aid of a computer or other device. Being a "real DJ" doesn't even mean that you can beatmatch or scratch. It just means that you play music via a disc. So in my opinion, DVS systems don't allow you to DJ anymore than a controller does. If I see a guy show up to a party with a TT or CDJ coffin and a crate of vinyls/CDs, I'll shake his/her hand and say "You are one of the few real DJs left." Anybody else who is not playing music through an actual disc is not a DJ. There is not a fine line (strictly speaking from opinion).
The term still has aesthetic meaning though. I refuse to be called a controllerist. The real world doesn't give a shit what you're called, but they understand what a DJ is. I can't put "controllerist" on my business cards... Nobody says "I want to hire a controllerist for my wedding."
I think these debates are about as pointless as political debates. Nobody prevails. And if you think you prevail, you deserve a big old "come on, son."
A DJ is someone who plays music to an audience. The term real DJ is stupid and totally subjective. Why can't we all just get along?
