Who said anything about telling the difference between 320kbs and WAV files?

The main reason I don't convert my WAV files to mp3 is because I like to make re-edits and remixes in Abelton.

Why would i want to encode a mp3, then have it re-coverted to a WAV in Abelton then back to mp3 when I export out of Abelton?

I also don't need 10,000,000 songs to rock a 4 hour set, so HD space isn't a issue.

The library on my old laptop which is now broken was ~50 GB. My library at the moment is a pathetic 4 GB.

When I can be bothered I'll buy a sata adapter and take the hard drive of my old laptop to get the songs back

About 3400 mp3s and around 600 vinyls. The mp3's are about 2/3 EDM stuff. About 1/2 of the vinyl is hip hop, soul, pop, jazz albums the rest is techno and house singles and eps. I let go of a lot of vinyl the last time I moved.

It's doable with headphones and good ears. Maybe you could hear a tiny bit less presence on a good club system....But it has to be a good one. But yes for remixing WAVs are a must -- so I keep a lot of material on the original CDs so I could just go to the bookshelf and get a new copy whenever I need/want.

I have close to 17,000 tracks in iTunes wherefrom 4000 or so are exported via playlists for playing purposes. Mostly AAC/MPEG 320k stuff.
