So basically Skrillex helped make dubstep become more mainstream. That made all the people who thought they were in the super secret club of dubstep listeners all grumpy. So to still feel cool and all fuzzy inside they all started calling Skrillex "brostep," because people that weren't like them enjoyed the same genre of music they like.

Oh god I these rants made me forget what the topic was. Just listen to whatever you like and let that be the end of it. Music is for people of any age.

I'm a tech house and funky house DJ/fan and while I don't listen to much dubstep or skrillex, I do believe that he's one of the most talented producers out there. He took a niche genre and made it accessible to mainstream. Is it a bad thing that people now like it?

Personally, I got into dance music about 4 or 5 years ago - and I fucking love the fact now that my (non music/hipster) friends are finally enjoying it! EDM is as valid of an art form as any other type of music and everyone should have the right to enjoy it.

Electro and trance got me into EDM and as I matured I found appreciation for other genres, those which now define what I produce/listen to/and DJ. We should be happy that some talented producers are bringing our music into the spot light. In the end, it means more people filling up our dance floors!

Ok, I could totally do without the fuckers that mosh to dubstep... I can go to a metal show for that, not a club!

Sure.. call it brostep and I'll consider him one of the better brostep producer..
The dude works under steve duda after all

Comparing it to dubstep it is far from good.
I'll use this comparison again.. its like me saying LMFAO are the best house producers.
Sure their tunes are 'good'/popular when it comes to pop.. but they are far from quality house tunes.

thats just my opinion tho.. and the only reason I argue is because I can't let someone pass as something they aren't.

Its cool that people like his music..
but its not cool that people bash the genre based on something that really doesn't even fit in the genre they are bashing.. if that makes sense.

I don't blame the guy for making tunes and having fun.. good for him..
everyone says he's a respectable guy..
but I can blame the mass for being ignorant

    /rant

Its a pointless argument but one I'll stand by..
For Techno fans it would be like me calling House and Trance Techno.. and saying Deadmau5 is the best Techno producer
For House fans.. you have the whole david gutta LMFAO/brittany spears House tunes.. that are produced the best house tracks ever lol
DnB fans.. idk about you guys..

its just electro with a dubstep production style (140 bpm but sounds like 70) REAL dubstep does not have idiots moshing to it

But on topic, I wouldn't say it's for kids, but at the same time I don't know many people over 30 who actually listen to it as their preferred genre.

Around here it's pretty huge and for a while was most of what you'd hear at one of the bars in town. I had an interest for a short time but got bored quickly and it seems like the more people here are moving away from it.
If anything it's like a fad here but not one that I think will totally die out.
