VDJ is a pretty handy. I used it for my first year of DJing befre moving to Traktor(mF took me there) If all I had left was my VDJ, i'd pimp it XD

Shame the VDJ fanboy can't read. I said the LE vesion is rubbish and will want to upgrade in a week.

Traktor LE is practically the same, extrememly reduced workflow, minimal effects, a full version of any software is needed.

There's Deckadance, Mixmeister, Miss Pinky, i don't even remember half of the ones i've tried, they can be used without restrictions and can help perfect button mashing.

However if the user really wants to learn to mix / beatmatch, there's still is no better way than two pieces of the same vinyl, two turntables and a 2 channel mixer and several hours of practice, the digital solution can't teach this, it can however teach button pushing.

If you want a "cheap" solution, then it's two turntables and a mixer time, going digital required a lot of money to get things right for me, if compromise your buying, you will most likely compromise your sets.

and to the guy who wants the LE disk, I found the sleeves, and they are both from the seriously badly thoughtout VMS4 (don't ask me about it, it was a huge mistake). I never had the Denon LE version as I live in Europe and we wern't allowed to have that.

So, unfortunatly its not going to help you.

now to the drunk DJ .... drunk at a gig, very professional. Drunk whilst posting ... how responsible ..... now go to bed and sleep it off.

Haha. That's fine JSM, I got a message from Silvio that the promotion is still on. I am curious to how you think TT's and a mixer are a cheap solution to learn to beatmatch though. I would love to hear about this because I still haven't officially purchased an SC2000 yet so my options are still open.

2 cheap second hand DIRECT DRIVE turntables, Citronic, BST, Gemini, Akiyama etc. look in your local papers, tons of people sell them when they either upgrade or quit.

A 2 channel mixer, it doesn't have to be the top line, good enough to monitor your practice sessions.

2 copies of the same record - for beat matching 101.

Beatmatching on a digital solution is "push sync", not much to learn, however the art of riding faders, gently holding the spindle to give a little drag, etc. HAVE to learned on TT's ...CDJ platters don't have spindles etc.

You DO NOT HAVE TO BUY TECHNICS 12's, not yet anyway ... try on something cheap to see if it's your thing, then if not put them back on craigs list or eBay.

I had a look on my local vesion of craigs list and found a setup in Barcelona (obviously no use to you) for €200 about $150 i found a pair of 1 year old Numark TT200's and a Gemini mixer ... i still have these TT's as backup, and actually have some cool features, such as straight tone arm for scratching, +/- 10% (not the normal 8%) and a reverse button ...

So have a think about what you REALLY want to do,

    (a) Learn to be a professional DJ to make money or have a career
    (b) have a bit a laugh, maybe play some bar gigs, then move onto something else

A . A long time practicing and a lot of money building up the music collection.
B . Pretty well instantly, but unlikely to acheive anything memorable, good enough for most young lads trying to score ..

Just so you know I started DJing in 1983, was playing in Tenerife in 1988, Acid House in 89, through Jungle/ Tribal / Progressive and into electro of today. I am a vinyl collector, i have a studio and lately i've taken up band management.

I've been lucky enough to hold some big residencies and i am still amazed that i travel all over Europe today at 44 years old.

In all that time, the techniques of mixing haven't changed.
