u don't need to use any other software at all. well that's the short answer....
to use the mappings that people created using midikatapult u will ofc also need to run midikatapult. it allows you to create virtual faders and other controls on the launchpad and also gives u access to multiple layers/pages
the launchpad sends out midi like any other midi controller anyway - tho doesn't have any builtin layers
you can also use my midimasher app and i suspect there will be two big+multi-page launchpad mappings released using it in the coming week
you could also in theory convert a midikatapult config into a midimasher one - or even write some code to do that on the fly. i won't be doing that tho as i don't think that'd be fair to the author of midikatapult

might actually write some code to read in a midikatapult config and emulate it via midimasher as i'm not too sure whether he is or isn't going to be developing midikatapult further. hope he does tho. i bought it as soon as i got my launchpad, it's a great app and only costs a few $$'s and was what helped spur me on to creating my own midimasher.
