Have you ever seen Raja Ram? He's 70 and still does the full PsyTrance festival circuit. Just sayin' ageism makes people look sort of uncool...and if you think a 60 year old dancing to high BPM Dutch House is uncool...you need new attitudes.

I'm assuming that this chap is the exception, not the rule?

People can dance to what the hell they want to - I didn't say it was uncool for them to do so, I just really can't imagine my Mum or my mother in law, both in their 60's, enjoying a 4hr banging Dutch House set at a wedding - and my old dear is really quite open minded when it comes to music - I was playing her Flying Lotus & DJ Shadow the other day, but at the end of the day she prefers Steeleye Span and Cliff Richard

And when you're looking for tunes to include and you find any that are borderline or just plain cheese shite. Get them. That's what everyone else will be expecting to hear.

Having said that, and agreeing with all the other posts, I played my mate's wedding a couple of years ago and didn't play much cheese. A few obvious jokers, more for ironies sake though (Celebration, You're The One That I Want, etc), and it was quite a mixed crowd. It was actually amazing, it was a boat party on the thames in oxford. Finished the party with 'Baba O'reilly' and had everyone singing along. Ah, memories...

Do you have your timetable worked out? Have you ever MC'd a wedding? Do you have table games ready that aren't cheesey, but entertaining? Do you know what times to do first dance, mother/son, father/daughter, garter/bouquet, money dance, and in what order? Do you you have proper working wireless mics? What are you going to play when it's not the last hour or two of the reception since house/top 40 don't fit or belong during those times?
If you don't have the correct answers for any of those questions or even have to think about them, you aren't ready to do this, and you are putting yourself in a position to fail. Not only that, but potentially ruin the biggest day in the life of your friend, but 1000 times moreso, in the life of his fiance. Hope your ready to have a possible strain in that friendship.

That's a great rule of thumb to be a shit wedding DJ too. Just because it's what they are expecting doesn't mean that's what it should be. I learned several years ago that wedding DJ's can play great music for that type of event, and cut out the cheese (for the most part) too.
