The promoter had a family emergency and wasn't there when I got there so I just set up and went on after the other DJ who was meh. The problem was I effed up and forgot my little lights and was really struggling to see the mixer. That and the fact that these girls wouldn't stop trying to talk to me while I was mixing lead to a few mistakes in my set and its really driving me crazy right now. Nothing to awful (stuff like the incoming song fader being only partially up, and transferring the bass badly) but its really killing me now. Simply put I just could't see well with no light. The guys before me were using rane 57s with like 6 knobs and 2 faders and were fine in no light, but it effed me up on a 4 channel mixer with shit everywhere. Regardless, I did fill the dance floor and played good tracks and had some good mixing but man, those mistakes really really sucked. uhgggggg. This is really the first time this has ever happened to me, I always have those lights (not this time...). Also.. the monitor speakers sucked, useless.
Sorry to hear that bro, chances are you were the only one who could tell probly. Idk what genre you spin, but ive heard a lot of top 40/dance dj's mess up bad and they normal club goer and workers dont know.

You're not the only idiot last night tho, i was up till 3am recording a 2 hr set to put on soundcloud and had the recording on traktor turned to external. spent all that time and had no mix at the end.

    Beatslicing for the bitches

    Torch app on iphone ftw.

Don't use four decks if stressed just use two.

Simplify shit if you're getting stressed out

Dont get caught up in mistakes.

Its what makes or breaks a good DJ. Its not the mistakes you gotta worry about its what you do after you make a mistake.

Its different for you when your watching the seconds on the screen/cdj and mucking up compared to a person who's intoxicated and dancing on the floor.

Like others said, your "worst" performances might actually be your best in someone else's opinion
I really appreciate that advice man.

Hear ya, I definitely wonder the same.

I tried to set my iPhone with flashlight app up but it kept falling down and just didn't have time to deal with it. I love my setup and never feel to stressed really - unless I can't see it.

you can try to build a nightvision helmlet and go to the daftpunk route
    That would be cool !

And I would play Infected Mushroom - Muse Breaks because it was the song that I asked my wife if she want to be my girlfriend It's our song! hahaha can you imagine?

She was your wife before she was your girlfriend? :-O

You can get a simple headlamp for pretty cheap and they are great for doing work in the dark when you need your hands. Probably not the coolest looking thing to wear while spinning but why not heh...

And that "this is Infected Mushroom" trick probably works great if you're playing psy and that's what's requested... Doesn't work so well when people request Tupac, heh...

    OT.

She was your wife before she was your girlfriend? :-O
Now this girl is her wife.
But before she became Mrs V-Hoff, well, he had to start dating her (first things first, you don't walk in the street and propose to a girl like that ), and they became eachother's boyfriend/girlfriend
And that's on "Infected Mushroom - Muse Breaks" that she became his girlfriend.

    Ahah.

The thing is... Only other DJs, usually mates or producers etc will hear it as they are trained to listen out for it. The educated punter too sometimes, but he is there to party and socialize, not nitpick your set. If they paid big money to see you play, they will probably be more critical of your set.

If your ratio of good gigs vs bad gigs is good, then you doing well and learning. Fuck ups happen for various reasons. If you good at laughing it off and dont do it often, it's no biggie at all. Put up your hands and go Fucking Bullshit mixer! And then come back swinging for the fences!

Don't be too hard on yourself. We are usually our own most harshest critics!
