In my experience the more you can offer ppl the better your chances of success. During the day i run a DJ Store and School called DJ Mix Club, i write technical reviews for some local mags every couple weeks, i'm a 8 year resident DJ at a club and produce my own stuff and a band i play bass and keys in.

I'm Network Engineer for the Dept Of Defense for the past 10 years. Shhhhhh.

Hours are great. I work from 12pm - 8pm.

Some advice to aspiring DJ's. Don't kill your education over DJ'ing. Cause only a small percentage make it big. The route I choose to go is to get my education. Make DJ'ing a hobby. Start my career and have my career fund my DJ'ing. It's easier to get gigs if your a backer for a promotion team or club. While most struggle to get equipment or what not. I fund my own stuff.

Mind you just cause you backing people doesn't mean you can slack off. If fact you work harder. Cause they will always be critics.

Much <3 and do what you have to do to keep your life balanced and as rewarding as possbile.

I'm a Process tech working on a natural gas platform offshore Sarawak waters, Malaysia.
Working on 2 weeks on/off basis. sometimes the work was tough, less sleep but nevertheless shit tons of overtime!
On my free time when the plant is smooth it'll get boring & that's the time for loitering around forums & ebay looking for news about gear & hunting for more gears
Normal routine would be babysitting the Control Room, monitoring the platform status...
The platform is not too shabby too, we have a gym room full of jamming gears & a decent PA setup, where i used to bring my controller & laptop up there & starts mixing when i'm off shift..

A pretty rewarding job I say, been on this industry for more than 6 years now & have a decent living out of it

I'm a structural engineer - I design water towers for a living (my specialty being in the ones with concrete pedestals with steel containers on top).

I'm working in a hotel in the Bar/Kitchen on a Casual Contract which allows me to take what I want when I want and they don't really question it or be too mad at me for not doing enough hours. Thing with this is, is that they allow me to take hours when other people don't really want to work, so I can take most of the later night shifts. It's a good little job. Just a draw back is that they don't give me enough work some weeks which is a draw back.
This also means I can cut back the hours and/or turn down the days when I DJ, which to be fair is every other week. Nothing too much, but it's a start.
