You're going to have to wait for cyanogenmod or something similar. I wouldn't buy one of these on release day and expect it to work with ableton.
The normal Kindles do run only limited apps. I believe (I'm 99% sure) that the Kindle Fire is a full fledged Android Tablet. It would be product suicide to release it in a limited form. There's already so many splintered groups within the Android camp that this is actually pretty good for Apple if things keep going this way.

With the Nook Tablet just around corner you will have all these different Tablets that are running varied version of Android. Some can use some apps others can't, some will get updated to new version of Android others won't. I like Android I think it's a great idea I just don't think the platform is handled very well. I'm always amazed at how many of my friends have phones that are less and a year old but yet they can't get the latest version of Android on it.

Anyways, yes the KF seems to be limited to the Amazon marketplace apps and the BN one will be probably even more limited. I'm already over using these as part of DJ workflow. I would only consider Ipad2 for that.

I'm simply looking at these for the portability of wifi/email/entertainment. Was pretty set on the Fire but I do have a 32gb microSD of my own and I could make use of that with the new Nook Tablet. I just don't know if the Nook's browser will be as good as the new Amazon Silk browser. My techy friends have told me that it's supposed to actually be amazing (predicting your internet workflow and pre-loading your most frequent sites before you even open them).

The one downside I see to the Kindle Fire is that they entice you to get into their Amazon market. I don't feel the need to pay $80 a year just so I can get something SHIPPED to me faster. I can wait an extra 3 days thank you. Most DJ equipment can also be found much cheaper by simply price matching an Amazon price.

And yeah, thanks Bartboy. Besides DJTT, I like to waste my time on engadget.com and techcrunch.com as well!

    KEep the discussion rolling!
