Help with music production

So i make dubstep/electron/etc and i use ableton suite 8

so when i make my songs, my melodies take a while to make because i have no midi controller, i was wondering if i should get a keyboard to make my songs a lot easier to create? like the akai mpk49 or something?
what all should i have to create my songs besides my mouse and DAW?

Two topics weren't exactly necessary for this. And I'm not quite sure what you want us to tell you, you just addressed that you feel like you need a keyboard and even found one for yourself. So I guess so, yeah, get one.

Having a keyboard is very worth it. It depends on your space but I find that even a 25 key Midi Keyboard can do the job. It really depends on your style of playing your melodies. I find that I don't really use my 49-Key as much for whatever I create (I'm also in the process of creating electro/house tracks). Btw also having pitch and mod wheels is better. Get a keyboard that has both as separate wheels and not a joystick because it's better to adjust both parameters separately (just my opinion). Some examples are M-Audio Oxygen 25, M-Audio Axiom 25, Alesis Q25 etc.

i was really thinking about the axiom 25
but im not sure which i would be most comfortable with because i no having a keyboard can really help me out a lot, i dont believe i need a 100key keyboard, lol i just need a keyboard, and besides, you can transpose the key measures on smaller keyboards cant you? like move key notes up or down along the smaller keyboards that cant fit them all in at once

Both the mpk49 and the axiom49 I have owned have octive up and down. Yo are not just limited to 25 or 49 notes on the smaller keyboards.

Me personally. I NEED a keyboard. Just playing the keys and walking scales is reason enough. It makes a world of difference

If you want 49 keys but don't necessarily need the pads and extras that come with the MPK49, I suggest looking into the M-Audio KeyRig49 as a much cheaper alternative.

In my experience I can't play the piano one bit so getting the keyboard may not help much at all If you do know how to play it then I believe it may be an essential peice to your studio, I have a small 25 key controller and I use it when I am figuring out chords or creating synth patches.

no one uses keyboards to play melodies, everyone is klicking hours with his mouse in his daw around and don't buy one even when he gets the idea of using one by himself because its bullshit.

it will just saves you too much time and what will you do then with this free time? i don't think it will be used for thinking so you don't need that time

*zynism off* producing music with a mouse and two mouse buttons is not funny, so get one if you want fun ;o)

i would suggest one from novation, which one depends on the features you want. (for me, i have an machine so i don't need drumpads and would pick up an novation remote sl2, if you want drumpads take a other model which has one ;D)
