i can dance just fine at 70,
its like hiphop. you done need erratic flailing limbs for it to be considered dancing.
just move ur body to the flow of the music. (yes, i realise i sound like a twat).

i don't understand the "can't dance" arguments, but then i also listen to hip hop and breaks. and i suck at dancing anyway.
yeah most people i saw dancing to dubstep were popping.
but frankly not all dubstep is aweful. some guys in the scene do some amazing stuff that's all wub wub wub waaaaah. i like modestep and ephixa for example. they switch things up nicely. also alot of vocal stuff. as with any genre one has to go through the aweful stuff to find the gems.
that said i also don't mind going nuts to a little skrillex not and then. but i wouldn't even attempt to dance to it.![]()

I guess a better way to put it is my heart does not sway to that pace lol I dont think its bad music I just never want to hear it at an event. I just kind of a buzz kill when ive been dancing to 128-136bpm all night.

As I originally posted the question, and read through all the opinions, it's pretty nice seeing how people think about it. Given, this is a DJing forum and we all have favorite genre's and are more particular about any given musical choices than most people, but I still think the thread sums up the basic vibe.
For me, Dubstep is a natural progression of the bass. Now, if you listen to it on a crap system, or a system that isn't tuned for heavy bass, it's no good.
I used to listen to and go to a LOT of breaks and DnB shows. I still do.
I've always been about the basslines. Even with house, that's the part of the music that drives me. I used to play bass guitar. In middle/high school, I used to play Tuba. Basslines ARE what fuels my fire.
Liquid Stranger IS my favorite Dubstep producer. I've had the luck of seeing him mix live as well, and it's something amazing hearing tracks you love played out. (And it was on a boat in Boston harbor no less!) Going and seeing Calvertron tonight. Jack Beats / Calvertron house had the wubbly business before wubbly was in style.
For me, dancing wise, I love Dubstep. Unless I'm fueled up on drugs, I can't really get into dancing to hardcore/hardstyle (though I love driving to it). For DnB and Breaks, I get into the groove, but I also have been dancing to it for so long, it's just natural. And I don't think I'm a good dancer, I just have fucking fun with it and don't give a fuck, and I think that's a lot of the appeal of Dubstep.
With Dubstep, to me, it's about having that half-time beat and just being able to take it easy and not kill yourself dancing. I know a lot of people love the whole grinding aspect to it, and then other people dance to it full-time style and rock out.
It hits a sweet spot between hip-hop and the rest of EDM for a lot of people as well. BASS is what gets people going lately, no matter what the genre. You can't say that a lot of "bro-step" focuses on the mid-range, which is true, but mixed through and within the really deep stuff, it gets nasty.
I get sick of producers and DJ's whom just play "banger banger banger" all night long. I mean, I like the banger tracks, but you need to build it up and bring it down. There are a TON of bad Dubstep focused DJ's at the moment. And it gives it a pretty bad rap at the moment. I hate that aspect of it as well.
I also have a mentality where I just want to get lost in the music at shows, and just have a good time with people.
I do get sick of some Dubstep tunes quickly, even though I enjoy them. Skrillex, Doctor P, Flux Pavillion, Hulk, Borgore, Tomba.... I love their shit. But I can't do it for long periods of time.
I don't know if that makes sense.
are you people serious? theres no basslines in dubstep?

Thats some mad low frequencies right thur.
they were talking about the more aggressive stuff, which focuses more on midrange
meh, fair enough if its the commercial end of it they're whining about. The commercial end of anything ends up sucking cock. Just look what happened to electro house.
